Ablation Rescheduled

Went in for my ablation today. There was a person before me that had a complicated arrhythmia so they weren’t able to get to me today. Nurse said that mine was simpler so that was encouraging. I got bumped to next Tuesday but as the 1st patient of the day. Had the car in the shop since I was going to be out of work.Thank the Lord that it was done today so I could use it this week.

How frustrating though, after getting yourself geared up for it - it didn't happen. I've been quite lucky that, especially as 3 of my 5 ablations have taken place during winter pressures (December, December, January) they've all gone ahead.

It's always been a worry, particularly with the logisitics involved. My EP is 60 miles away, and my visits require a stay at my parents usually with the dog and leaving the OH with the kids. It's 2 trains and 2 hours, or a car trip on a notoriously busy motorway and even them my parents house is 25 minutes drive around the other side of the city to the EP.

Even to go for pre op assesment involves 120 mile round trip and 4 hours in the car just for 20 minutes of paperwork and bloods!

On the other hand, at least you weren't the complex guy (usually me) that overran and took up all the time. And at least you have the car back!

This situation is so frustrating. I had this happen to me twice so I really know how you must feel.

The only good thing for me was that the only way I could get back on a list quickly was to agree to a new Consultant to the hospital taking me on. It proved to be the turning point in the efforts to improve my quality of life.

I hope the next 7 days don’t drag.
