My dad suffers from emphysema which has now got to the stage where he’s out of breath just eating. He’s getting so skinny and frail. I’m just wondering if anyone knows whether it’s safe for him to take collagen hydrolysate while he’s on Apixaban?

Apixaban & Collagen Hydrolysate
Your pharmacist is best placed to advise on that Dottie.
Of course BobD is quite right to point out that the best person to consult about collagen hydrolysate is your father's pharmacist, but I wondered whether he might be able to consume home-made soups or smoothies more easily than solid foods? (There are no food group restrictions with Apixaban) Also when my then elderly, frail mother found it difficult to eat and was loosing weight fast the District Nurse prescribed Complan. Perhaps you could ask your pharmacist about those ideas?
(I'm afraid I know too little about emphysema to know whether my suggestions are totally impractical, so sorry if they are.)
Hi Carole, I am confused re. Food groups safe to eat on Apixaban, I read one can eat anything, then again I see that I should avoid foods like leafy greens because of Vit K, how are we to know, is it a matter of everything in moderation ?
Sorry Tudee , I don't know where you have read that one should avoid leafy greens whilst taking Apixaban. I think you are confusing it with Warfarin, which works in a different way from the 'newer' anticoagulants like Apixaban. (and even on Warfarin I think it's more a matter of regulating what you eat according to your INR rather than avoiding any food stuff completely)
The NHS web site says, "There are no foods or drinks you need to avoid while taking apixaban."
(Though 'all things in moderation' is always a good idea no matter what medication one might be taking )
However, one should not take the herbal supplement St John's Wort. Nor should you take aspirin or ibuprofen. Paracetamol is OK.
Edited to say ….. as with all questions/concerns related to medication the best person to ask is your pharmacist. They are the experts.
