Changing from Apixaban
I had this same letter about a month ago. The cardiologist had selected Apixaban for me and it was all agreed 2 years ago. I think they are trying it on, as I guess Edoxaban will be cheaper. I phoned the GP surgery to deliver my most informed and determined speech about staying with Apixaban, as it best fits my health needs. Result: I'm staying on Apixaban. I hope you can get what is best for you too.
I will call them as it took a long time for my body to adjust to Apixaban
Last Christmas in my surgery there was a new computer model changing all medication to alternative cheaper ones with no notification till I saw changes on the medication request. It was easily changed but the computer kept altering it back till a manual override which can only be set for a year. When my Consultant knew what had happened she wrote a letter reinforcing the medication I should have. So the cost cutting exercise cost a consultants letter and 3 appoints getting the computer instructions changed and fixed.
I believe Edoxaban is cheaper than Apixaban. I am told Apixaban is kinder to any bleeds especially gastro and brain.
My husband is on pravastatin (cholesterol) and some time ago he had a letter to change to simvastatin - the reason? it was cheaper. He didn't change.
With the drain on the NHS etc these days I believe GPs are asked to try and cut down.
The same thing happened to me . Some pharmacist employed by NHS look at medications and attempt to change them to suit usually cost is involved. I just phoned my GP and explained that I was not choosing to change for the reasons that you gave and they were not bothered as long as they could document it on my notes! It's your choice!
I am the opposite. It took me a while to get used to edoxaban but now they want to change me to another because of my post surgery complications. I don’t want to change.
