just wondering if anyone can clarify this- I take Apixaban 5 mg twice daily. I’m going into the Papworth for an ablation tomorrow and the letter says to take tomorrow mornings dose as normal. But when I’ve logged onto their website to read more, it says not to take it in the morning. Is it just that the website needs updating? I’ve tried ringing the arrhythmia nurse but no one’s got back to me yet and I expect it’s too late now. What has anyone else done please

Apixaban before ablation
I took mine as usual as per instructions and had to sign that I had taken regularly for at least 21 days.
Best wishes
Screenshot from Papworth’s info sheet online, I’m as confused as you are.
I had a 9 AM ablation and told to hold only the morning dose of Apixaban day of ablation. US hospital.

I had cryoablation at 9am or so, and was told to miss only the morning pill prior to ablation. Croatia hospital.
It is now normal for many EPs to continue anticoagulation throughout ablation. It is to reduce the chance of micro embolii being formed during the procedure which may migrate to the brain creating brain fog .
I was told ,mistakenly, to take mine at 6am. When I got there, I was asked when was last dise. It wasn't a problem they just adjusted something It was meant to be 6 pm for a morning proceedure!
So it's not crucial and won't stop the proceedure if your advice is wrong.
Best wishes ❤️
Had ablation yesterday morning and advice was to continue Apixaban as usual and they wanted to confirm that I had had my morning dose prior to a 9:30am procedure. QEH Brum UK
I had strict instructions to take my morning dose of 5 mg of eliquis. US hospital
Good luck with your ablation…
I was told similar. I think the thinking has changed and you should follow your personal instructions rather than the general information elsewhere.
I hope it goes well and that you'll feel new person soon!

I was told to take apaxiban as usual but I was at the ward at 7 and my dose would normally be at 8am so I hadn't taken it. I was told not to take it as no liquid could be taken so close to the procedure. I told the nurse, the EP, the anaesthetist and my nurse in the cath lab and nobody was in the slightest but concerned. I should ring the number for the ward and double check though
I was told to continue my apixaban but the day of the ablation to take it at 6am instead of 8.30am. I think it was more to do with the fact of nil by mouth. I didn't have any bleeds following my ablation and the groin wound healed beautifully
I don't think it matters, as it stays in your blood for longer than the 12 hours between doses. I had a minor op and the Dr told me to skip a dose but when it came to the procedure the Dr had forgotten she had asked me to skip a dose. I took the dose soon after she had finished the procedure. So there was less than 12 hours between doses. About 8 hours in my case.
All the best.

I wasn’t told to stop my anti-coagulant when I had my ablation last September. I take mine after my evening meal. I had a lovely huge bruise in my groin for days afterwards.
only what I was told, that different ablation docs follow different processes. I've been monitored on warfarin and told they won't do ablation if INR less than 3.5. On apixaban I've been told to stop it day before, or not stop it depending on Doc.
I would go by the paper because that’s updated and yes, I have found things on the Internet that is so far behind
they will ask you in the hospital anyway I have found different doctors do different things even with anticoagulation pills last time I did not stop them. They may go by what has happened previously is the latest stick to it unless you hear back from someone
