Hi all just wondering what the general consensus is to how long after a hopefully successful ablation do you continue on the anticoagulant? Thanks

Apixaban after ablation
That depends on your Chadvasc score. There is no proof that even succesful ablation reduced stroke risk so it goes like this.
If you were only put on anticoagulation for the purposes of the run up and follow up to the ablation then it is possble to stop after the blanking period. If on the other hand your score is such that you would be safer on them then you remain for life as many of us do,.
I stopped after my post ablation 3 month review with the EP
I stopped after 12 months without noticeable AF after I pushed very hard but my EP was extremely reluctant and felt there was no Gold Standard Study to show that stroke risk reduced. I scored CHADS 0. 12 months later I had a TIA and couldn’t get back on them fast enough!
I think it does need to be a discussion with your doctors and also for you to understand the risks.
I had a successful ablation in November 2020, I am on Apixaban, as I understand it from my consultant, for life. I have no noticeable side effects.
All the best
Colin
I had a successful ablation in November 2016 and on advice from my consultant I stopped anticoagulant 3 months later. My AF/AFlutter returned early this year, and on my first visit with a different consultant he said that as a (then) 60 yr old female I would have been wiser to have stayed on them! Needless to say I’m back on them now, but confusingly it does very much depend on who you are advised by, as well as, and it would sometimes seem regardless of, your own CHADVasc score.
I had a successful ablation 4 years ago but was told i would be on them for life, i just accepted it, if i need them i need them,
I was put on 1 month before the ablation and taken off 2 months after.
my question to this is how do you know rhe ablation is successful? It’s a length of string that’s endless or short is it not?Personally I’m happy to take it just in case AFIB starts again...
