History of Paroxysmal A.Fib.

Hi,

I was diagnosed with A.fib in 2002. Since then I have had 3 failed ablations. I had a pacemaker in 2011. In 2016 I was due to have a hip replacement. There was a big fuss about doing it in case I went into Afib and unfortunately I gave in to having an A.V node ablation. No more pain from hip. A.fib doesn’t last for 24hrs now but I still have it and it gives me hell. I am a trembling wreck as it’s so fierce and debilitating. I have now been discharged by cardiologist (scrap heap) I just have pacemaker checked yearly. The A fib was so fierce yesterday my chest is still trembling this morning. I feel as though I have hit a blank wall now, regarding treatment.

Please don't be fobbed off. If you are feeling this bad then please see your gp and ask to be referred to a new cardiologist. You can't go on feeling like this and feel you are on the scrap heap. You deserve the best possible care and sadly sometimes we have to push to get it or fall by the wayside.

Is there an arrhythmia nurse at your hospital who you can contact for support. Please don't just suffer it's your right to have help and if your current cardiologist isn't able to provide you with support find someone who will give you another opinion and assistance,. Chin up don't give in.

I don't share your Afib consequences, but I do also have a feeling of almost 'scrapheap'.

5 ablations and still not sorted, what was once a condition we must get treated is now a condition its ok to live with!

I have at times felt like an experimental guinea pig for the EP docs, but I guess that's just part of it maybe.

Thank you for your post

Hi Clemothesweep

Thank you for taking time to reply. You are right about the guinea pig feeling a case of “oops got that wrong ................, Next please”

I was given all kinds of encouraging words to have av node ablated saying how I would have a new lease of life. Not the case for me. I think though there must be people who have benefitted from this procedure.

Best Wishes

I agree with what both Meadfoot and Clemothesweep have both said. Fobbed off and guinea pig! In fact I feel quite cross about the way you have been left to cope on your own - it's almost unbelievable how anyone can be treated the way you have!!

Please tell your GP what is happening and if it's not offered then demand some help.

Wishing you all the luck and good fortune in the world with this quest.

Jean

Totally agree with Meadfoot, DON'T BE FOBBED OFF, go back to your GP and ask to be referred to another consultant, at a different hospital if needs be, the other one sounds like a waste of time hugggs

It's so horrible isn't it when you feel so on your own and you have had so many procedures to try and improve your health. You can always ask for another referral to a different hospital out of area is better as there is some thoughts that the medical profession stick together so that might be an option. Maybe if possible go see someone for a private consultation. That's quicker you will need gp letter of referral I suspect. I think when I am sitting with my cardiologist who is charming and I trust I know he doesn't have a clue as to how this horrible complaint affects me emotionally perhaps only us who suffer really do know how scary it is. I don't think you ever get use to having the feeling of a floppy fish going made in your chest. Feeling light headed and not knowing if this will stop and go back into sinus rhythm. Be assured that you are understood on this forum with wonderful people like Bob,Jeanie and others being supportive. Take care and I hope you get sorted out soon. Regards Chris

I think a private appointment is a good idea, so thank you for the suggestion. Also I agree that unless you have A.fib you can’t understand the effect it has emotionally.

We are all strong to have deal with this.

Thank you for taking time to reply.

Good luck with your table banging! Not good enough.I think the usual wait is 12 weeks for new appointments, but a private appointment is about £150 ,and can be a matter of days,Just a thought.

😊will do.

I felt like you on the cardiologist scrap heap and I asked to be referred to St Georges. I saw them on Friday omg what a difference. Yes of course we can sort you out no wonder you've been feeling so ill. I can't tell you what a relief it is not to feel like a nuisance or a hypochondriac after 18 months. Please ask your gp for a second opinion X

Hi - so sorry that you feel so rotten when you had high hopes that you would be so much better. Have you managed to talk to your GP and how are you feeling now?
