Diagnosed with PAF when I was 16 and been off and on medication for years, I am now 22. Recently I attended a martial arts class and during our warm up I went into AF(was embarrassing) ambulance was called as I wasn’t in the best state pins and needles in my arms, shortness of breath etc. This AF episode was different this time and was a lot more stronger then usual. Normally It would be converted by IV beta blockers and flecinide but this time it was IV adenosine which was horrible then that didn’t work so I had to be cardioverted which was great didn’t remember a thing and the drug they used to sedate me was amazing lol.
So after being denied an ablation in the past I thought this was the last straw and they have now given me a date 2nd of February at the John Radcliffe in oxford for the operation. A little scared but I can’t keep living like this especially at my age.
This website has really helped me especially when my anxiety was at its highest so thank you all for sharing your stories and advice.

Well done Ollie. Our thoughts are with you and good luck in Feb. I had three before my AF went and am sure my first was wasted because I was too much a bloody hero and did too much too soon. Rest and do nothing the first week and not much more the second and then gradually ease back in to normal life. Remember it takes three to six months for your heart to fully recover and you may well get some odd events and maybe even AF to start with. It isn't an instant off switch!
Thank you. I am hoping one will be enough as I really don’t like having these AF episodes as they never go back without having to call out an ambulance or someone driving me to a&e
I’m sure it will go well. I had mine in nov 2013 and still in NSR.
As Bob says be prepared to take it easy for a while. You may have a bumpy few months but hopefully all will settle down. I had lots of arrhythmias for about 5 months but gradually reduced and then BLISS!! No more AF.
I am a lot older so my exercises is walking or dancing i.e. easy and gentle. Probably not very relevant to your situation. Lots on here exercise a lot so read and ask more questions. Also get advice from your EP.
You are so young Ollie1221 and you do not want your AF to become persistent before having an ablation. I would suggest you go on the internet and read up on how an ablation is done. Knowledge is very powerful in removing fear. I did that for my two ablations this year ; so my fear was abated.
Aww good luck Ollie , your doing the right thing . Your so young and will look back and be glad you did it . I am 4 months post ablation now and glad I had it done , as bob said !! You may have some funny sensations afterwards but it does get better over time 😉👍🏼❤️
Ah well done! I best that’s such a good relief once you did it. I hope mine will be successful like yours. Will definitely do a post after my ablation.
Your welcome hun , I still have little wobbles lol , and they found SVT with me to , so I had freeze and burn and so glad I had it done 👌🏼 mine was all very fast process Ollie , had one episode in November 2016 and ablation done in August 2017 . Had I not had it done I would not have known I had the SVT, the EP study itself is worth having done and while they are there they can zap or freeze anything 😊 it’s totally normal to be scared Ollie , but you are young and fit and got a whole lot of fun to have when your better. If you have any questions or are just wanting a chat just ask anyone on here as we all in the same place 💕❤️💕👍🏼here any time .
Thank you for such a humble reply. I just hope they find what is triggering my afib, that is my worry that they won’t be able to find anything. Just have to wait and see.
Don’t worry Ollie, they no exactly what they are doing 👌🏼 I always new I had SVT, but never showed up ever in ecg monitor. They found it before the AF . And until Friday when I have my follow up , I still am not sure if they seen my AF on the day as it states in my notes ? That they froze the PV vains because of documented PAF ? So I am very interested to see what gets said . I was very sleepy when the EP came around after and just remembered him saying they managed to get it going in the end . So they still froze the area , I also had a bonus freeze in one of my pv for a fast beat . It’s all very confusing but my point is try not worry because they will find what’s happening on the day and sort it out . You are a young man and I honestly think you will be fine 😊 just remember what bob says about rest rest and more rest you have got this Ollie 💪🏼👌🏼👌🏼👌🏼💖❤️💖👍🏼
I know it’s hard to not worry but the ablation procedure will be with sedation or general anesthesia so like your cardio version you will wake up and it will be over. Then definitely follow Bob’s advice.
