So I've just received a copy of my gp's letter from the brompton, all looks ok for most of the tests, however I'm quite concerned that since oct my ejection fraction on my echo has gone from 65% down to 52%.... google dosent paint a great picture of this so I'll need to send an email query Monday I think.....wish I hadn't read it now.
Letter from brompton: So I've just... - Atrial Fibrillati...
Letter from brompton
I queried changes in my last one and was told that such matters were often subjective and operator sensitive so not to worry.. Hope this is the same with you..
Like Bob, my last 2 were very different, 55 then 70 !
I worried too at the time but forgotten about it now.
A Real low EF would feel like heart failure. Puffy ankles, shortness of breath etc.
Pat
you shouldn't be concerned as normal ejection fraction is 50-75 Higher than that is not good as it can be the heart muscle is hardened and pumps out too high a percentage of the blood ( which is what is being measured with ejection fraction)
I've had 3 ejection fraction readings. 1st one was 25-30% and I was considered in heart failure and had my defib/pmaker put in (subsequently taken out due to infection). 2nd 54% which was considered practically normal. It's now measuring at 47% which is low but not low enough for me to need the defib/pmaker back in. My cardiologist has always said he doesn't always go on a patient's ejection fraction as someone with a low one could feel brill whereas someone with a near normal one could be ill.
I too have experienced the same and now I have a Pacemaker which keeps me on an even keel
At 42, hope I'm not on way to a pacemaker
