Vitamins

It only occured to me today that some vitamins are not appropriate to take while on Apixaban. I also take Bisporol and Amlodipine.

I take regularly Lutein, Omega 3,6,9 and currently vitamin C.

Are any of you aware of articles, advice or opinion scientific or otherwise why one should refrain from taking these or other vitamins.

Thank you

Apixaban with antibiotics?

I've just been advised by a Dr in Tenerife that it's essential to take probiotics with the prescribed antibiotics for my chest infection as the medication reduces the effect of Apixaban.

Has anyone heard this before ?

If you look at the info slip you get with Apixaban it lists the antibiotics that affect Apixaban so the doctor is correct on that but I ( am not a doctor!!) would be surprised if taking probiotics would stop this interaction. Will be interested to hear others' views on this !

Antibiotics kill off all the 'good bugs' in the digestive system, leaving the 'bad guys' to proliferate and do their damage throughout the body. (The good bugs have far more influence on our health than any of us would believe, if the latest research can be trusted) Probiotics will help to cancel out this effect, by replacing the good bugs, so a good course of probiotics is always recommended when taking antibiotics.

Exactly why this should affect the effects of Apixaban I don't know, but if Apixaban is affected by antibiotics it may be because of the good bugs/bad bugs problem, so the probiotics may help to solve the problem.

Omega 3 is very good for the body - and heart - but I understand that they may increase blood-clotting times slightly. So I take them - but not too many!
