I was recently told by my cardiologist there is little point in taking magnesium supplements, unless prescribed by your doctor, all most of them do is cause diarrhoea...which I had & not increase magnesium levels.

I had been put on mag while staying in my local hospital, cardiologist took me off them & said the cause was more likely to be dietary. A week in heart hospital on very good diet soon brought mag levels back up.

I would just add, personally I find that most GP's, medical people and even vets will discourage any form of self help or even research

I take your point of Mg loosening the bowels but it's a case of keep on taking more and then find out at which point you get loose. For example, I take MG malate. I take 5-6 a day. The bottle says 3 a day will give your RDA.

I admit to having a dim view of big pharmaceutical as its not in their interests to cure but it is to treat.

I am not pretending to be an expert but I can at least share my own experiences and I have found that mega dosing of Mg malate really helps me with my fast heartbeat, depression and general get up and go. I take it for a month then stop for a week or maybe 10 days. I soon find out when I need it again. I have to say that even the rising in my ears goes away BUT this is my own result and so I don't expect that everyone will get this.

I am one of life's experimenters. I don't see why we can't do our own research and try to help ourselves. I don't now drink or do any illegal drugs, lord knows we are on enough drugs via our own horrid diseases.

I am lucky in that my GP will indulge me in my own testing as I have now diagnosed my own low testosterone levels and a pituitary problem that even he said that he'd have NEVER have tested for. I think it's worth keeping a diary of symptoms, however silly you may feel. I now get testosterone replacement and take pregnenolone and DHEA plus Sam-E.

With us being on corticosteroids then we are very open to adrenal insufficiency and there are ways to help with this.

Moderators, please delete this if you feel it's inappropriate, no problems with that at all. Many GP's will feel threatened by us asking questions and even suggesting tests.

Good luck and God bless you all

Avoid magnesium oxide - very little is absorbed. Magnesium citrate is better.

I have done extensive tests on magnesium. It is, can be, a real miracle mineral. Most of us adults and people on low income, are low in Mg. I have suffered many years of depressions and, around 20 years ago, I came cross a guy who wrote about how mega doses of Mg can help with so much.

To cut a VERY long story short here. I tried the citrate and found no help, tried others with no help but when I started on both Mg Maleate and any CHELATED Mg then it helped immensely. I found my energy levels go up, my concentration get better and my depressions lifting. I use a company called SOURCE NUTRIENTS, MAGNESIUM MALATE.

It's a bit disingenuous in that you need 3 tablets, they are big too, to get your daily amount. I start with one then build it up until I take enough so that I don't get loose as it can really clear your stomach if you get my drift.

In normal times, I take 3 but if stressed then I double that. The muscle twitches and spasms are gone and my heartbeat is better. I really do find it a small miracle but you need to spend on the best you can afford. Citrate is cheap and doesn't absorb well. Glauconite is ok but MALATE is best, for me anyway.

If I can be of any further help then please message me.

I also take pregnenolone and DHEA but I can't be seen to encourage anyone as its my own thing and I feel I have nothing to lose by experimenting.

Pregnenolone was the first thing the doctors used to treat RA but prednisolone was easily manufacturered and even though not natural, was quicker to take. Pregnenolone is the mother hormone and will help with adrenal insufficiency and , after 10 years of pred, I think I need it to help.

I was trying to insert a photo of the Mg I take but I cannot
