Cryoablation update......

Just over a week after my procedure, so thought it might be helpful to others if I bring you up to date with progress.......I have followed Bob's instructions to the letter and, of course, the instructions issued on discharge (not a lot different!). I was taken aback yesterday evening when I could feel changes in the way the heart was functioning.....the Kardia was either recording AF or unclassified. Although I knew this was likely to happen, it comes as bit of a shock when it does......it was a bit like entering a tunnel, not knowing where you were going or how long it would take to get there but fortunately it seemed a fairly mild episode.

I doubled my Flecainide dose from 2 x 50mg, so I had taken 200mg and this evened out the heart beat, but the rate continued at 110. On the night before the procedure, we had received some bad news and this added considerable stress at a time when we least needed it, so it wasn't too surprising the heart took issue as it was almost a week before the bad news was resolved exactly the time the AF started.

The good news is that after just over 12 hours, everything settled back to normal and I am back in NSR. I had been in touch with the Arrythmia Specialist Nurse at the hospital and they were very helpful and made it clear that this situation is not unusual for up to 3 months after an ablation. Sorry if this is long winded, but I hope it helps anyone in a similar situation. If an episode kicks off, try and remain calm as there is a good chance it will subside. I am not a medic, so please check with your EP what you should do with your medication should you be in a similar situation.

Best wishes, John

Hi John

I don't think that your experience is unusual. I agree don't panic. Remember that early epidsodes don't mean that the procedure hasn't worked. It will take some weeks (3 months) before the end result can be determined.
