What does this do that the others don't? Also, can anyone recommend a reliable home bp monitor?
Thanks

The Microlife WatchBPHome A (or AFib). Note the A which is for AF. It is a proper cuff monitor. A year ago it was the only one approved by NICE. It is also approved by the British Hypertension Society. It has HB recording as well but when in AF the AliveCor is more accurate. I am in persistent AF. You can get it VAT free from some sites so the one that appears the cheapest may not be!!!!
We have an Omron 3 which we are happy with. It picks up AF but really you don't need a machine to tell you you are in AF! I found the rate given by the Omron the same as the hospital monitor.
The alive cor measures your hb but more importantly does an ECG and tells you if you are in AF. I think you can mistake other arrhythmias for AF so really useful. Also you can print out the ECG and give to your EP which again I found very useful as it shows him when I had an AF episode.
Worth noting that not all AF is obvious. I had 24/7 AF whilst in hospital and couldn't feel it. I was about to discharge myself as I was bored senseless, but the very wise nurse suggested I go and see my monitor before making that decision, glad I did, straight back in bed !!!! I've also had what felt like a little muscle spasms / twitch, like a tiny little eye twitch but under my arm. That was caught on a monitor and confirmed Af by the EP.

Stephanietee. My understanding is that standard BP monitors do not record accurately when in AF, although I have had an Omron for many years and was satisfied with it. At Christmas I received a WatchBP home BP monitor. It has two advantages. It shows when AF is present, and it gives the average of the three readings that it takes at each recording. TerryW
A blood pressure monitor for Christmas???!!! It's my birthday soon-----!seriously though, thanks for the advice.
