Hi everybody, does anyone know if there is a connection between B12 deficiency and a/f ? It appears arrythmias are connected with it, but I am not sure if that includes a/f. I have just found out that my b12 level is low, and am just trying to join the dots.

Vitamin B12 ?
Hi jackieboy
Connected? depends what you mean, if you mean did your AF start from a B12 deficiency then probably no. If you mean does B12 deficiency often go hand in hand with arrythmias then yes, I think many of us have have additional B12 jabs.
But it's almost certainly not the cause of AF simply one of the myriad of contributory factors, and it's fairly rare (unless a youngish endurance athlete) to be able to pinpoint your causes. You might be able to find triggers, but probably not causes.
If you are trying to "join dots" to find a cause I would caution you that in that path lies potential hassle and potentially a lot of worry which can make AF worse. Finding triggers and avoiding them might be a lot more useful.
Causes of AF are still being widely debated, argued and put foward, there remains no real consensus as I understand it.
Hope this helps
Be well
Ian
I have pernicious anaemia ( lack of absorption of Vit 12) and AF so maybe you are on the right lines. If you are diagnosed with PA you'll have Vit12 injections to rectify this
I recently was dx with pernicious anaemia, FIBROMYALGIA, intercystal cystitis and my b12 is like at 300's. I had a SVT ablation done last year. It has been a long road (2years) of test after tests after monitor after ER visits ect. To boil this all down. .I am on B12, proposed and carafate(for reflux) and Elmiron (for the IC). The cardiologist says all is great but yet still have palpatations like crazy and dizzy. Been to four different opinions. I have leaned to accept and go on.
Thank you both for your replies, they are much appreciated. I think I was wondering about a connection, hoping that if levels are restored, then af may be less likely, more than trying to find a cause as such. I suppose only time will tell for sure, but I live in hope!
it's worth mentioning my potassium levels have been low when in bad AF but since taking more potassium in my diet AF seems to be kept at bay- I've not idea if there is a connection with PA but if I'm not absorbing B12 well possibly other things are not always absorbed- maybe worth checking how much potassium you're getting in your diet??
Thank you both for your replies. I think you are right rosyG, since I started to supplement my magnesium, I have had almost no hint of a/f , that I can feel. I am thinking of asking GP whether I can reduce Propafanone to once a day, to see what happens. My Potassium level is apparently ok. Good luck to you both.
hello, I have SVT and have been 90% vegetarian for some months. I have also been very active physically in the last few months. I am wondering if there is some deficiency happening in my body, potassium levels low, iron or B12 that is causing the SVT to worsen.
