Car enquiry.: Hi folks just wanted to... - Atrial Fibrillati...
Car enquiry.
Hi,
I know it may not be the same but I had to tell them that I had a pacemaker and that on previous occasions before my pacemaker op I did pass out but they sent confirmation that I am safe to drive, but to inform them of any changes.

Latest guidelines since March this year is that provided that you are not affected to the extent that your driving is affected or you become incapacitated then you do not need to advise DVLA . This has changed as we used to have to advise. This latest info is much more sensible. See DVLA website for full ruling.

I didn't know that Bob, as you say, more sensible.
I only wish it applied to other conditions as I now have 3 I had to notify about! Just received a response to the last notification which is I can still drive, but now only have a 3 year license.
Wow, common sense in the rules, whatever next
I informed the DVLA as someone told me that if involved in an accident it can effect your claim.
No problem at all from DVLA!
Hi Julie,
I've had bouts of A/F for several years.. On various meds over time,
I actually did not know. We should report this to the DVLA, until recently, although I do not pass out when in A/F
I'm waiting to see my EP Doctor in July, after 2 Ablations, most recent in April this year, I have been A/F free since, had a very short bout, of about two weeks after.,
But was told that the heart was reacting to the ablation and the tamponade, that happened.
Just thinking should I reveal now to DvLA....
Rosey a week ago I would have said yes but Thomson a couple of days ago posted the updated guidelines. I went on DVLA website and could no longer find the original confusing pages so this new guidance is correct. No incapacity or distraction = no need to advise.

I think the only time you have to inform dla is if you have a have licence, they left my car licence and said to in form them if things change but they took away my heavy goods licence
dizziness and balance is a biggy with dvla, or it was last time I looked. I have to be 6months free before re applying for licence. Mine is from a combination of AF, med side effects and Meneire's.
Hi poppyseed I don't pass out and I did ask hospital doctors before I left they said I was ok to drive and because o don't pass out while in af I don't need to inform them I a, so confused I wish you get leaflets for this condition love it's terrible not knowing what to do for the best
Yes you do need to contact them gov.uk/dvla-medical-enquiries I filled in a form and then they wrote back to say I was OK to drive.
If you are not sure, it best to inform them and it will give you peace of mind xx
