Hi Teddi, a couple of things to consider. Unless Omeron have made some changes to their range, they will detect arrhythmias (irregular heart beats) but there is more than one arrhythmia and they don’t make a distinction so it’s possible that it might not be AF. Omeron is essentially a blood pressure machine with extra functions and for people in persistent/permanent AF they are not very accurate for measuring blood pressure.

As far as I know, most heart specialists will accept Kardia reports. I’m not sure if the same can be said about other options. The Kardia system really isn’t complicated, I’m a boring ‘ole fart and believe me, if I can use one, anyone can. Listen to what others have to say, but I would recommend Kardia but I have no knowledge or experience of other options.....

Yup totally concur . As long as you have a phone for the app it’s easy. It’s kinda designed with the elderly technophobe in mind because that is their biggest market . I ve been able to email reports across to my cardio . If you have the phone borrow an adult child or even a teenaged grandchild to help you install and walk you through using. That’s what I do if challenged by technology but I did find Kardia easy and it’s very good

You can download apps onto your iPad so don’t see why that would be a problem. Just less portable than a phone but more so than the other device

Teddi - I use my Kardia with an iPad and it's fine - not so mobile as a phone but has all the facilities.

iWatch only works with iphone.

Kardia works with just about everything that has a microphone which includes all tablets including iPad and gives a much better trace and is less than one third of the price of the cheapest iWatch. I have all 3 which are all good - for different purposes.

Omoron is good as it gives a fairly accurate BP reading when in AF by using an AF option which makes you take 3 readings and produces an average so good for tracking BP.

If you want to measure and track BP Omeron is the best machine I’ve used. If you want an ECG trace you can record and email to your Dr then Kardia.

If you want a quick ECG trace and have a continuous record of your HR and O2 sats (iWatch6) - iWatch - for which you need an iPhone.

It’s a bit like comparing a hammer to an electric screwdriver to laser cutting. They are all excellent - but do different jobs.

I have been using Kardia for over 2 years. It tracks my husbands afib and I can see my pvc's. You can same the reports or share with your doctor.

Hi Teddi,The Kardia is an absolute doddle to use as long as you have a smartphone. You simply download the Kardia app.

You open the app, which prompts you to put 2 fingers on the Kardia, then after 30 seconds you will get an ECG reading with the results Normal or Possible AF.

I was diagnosed with PAF after submitting Possible AF readings to my GP & also confirmed by the Cardiologist.

It was worth it’s wait in gold, as nothing else picked up my symptoms........Good luck & all the best !!!!

An Omron will tell you your heartbeat is irregular, which you seem to know yourself so I can’t see the point as it doesn’t work very well for HR or BP if you are in AF.

A Kardia works with an iPad and is very accurate regarding rate and confirms AF or a few other rhythm conditions, costs £99.

An Apple Watch can record HR continuously and picks up AF - I would think it is compatible with an iPad but hopefully someone else will confirm.

Can you use your iPad as a phone - is it connected to a phone network or WiFi only?

An Omron wont tell you that you are in AF, it will tell you that you have an arrhythmia and will take a reasonably accurate BP reading in spite of that. An Apple watch will give you a good ECG, and will work with the Ipad. However it will cost you between £200 for a refurbished 4 up to £380 for a brand new 6. You will get continuous HR monitoring for that, but the main use of a watch is to integrate with a phone so you can get calls, texts, emails etc on your wrist. A kardia will cost £99 (you don't need the new 6 lead one for AF) and work with your Ipad to give you an accurate ECG.

as a matter of interest I note rambler baz,3 that you and others ,keep your scores on a Kardia, and send the results to your G.P. and Cardiologist. Can I ask Why ?—do they reply or offer advice etc. -I know I have PAF and have been more or less told I had to accept it —“So live with it!”

Hi 2000RedRose,I only had to send a couple of the Possible AF Kardia ECG results to my GP for him to confirm I had AF.

These were then sent to a Cardiologist for when I had an appointment. He confirmed I had PAF & now I’m on anti coagulation & PIP (Flecainide) to take when I have an episode.

I don’t have to keep sending the results to them, but when I feel an episode coming on I use the Kardia to confirm & then take my PIP.

Hope this helps....all the best !!!

Interesting!—so now I know to keep on grinning and bearing the condition and I don’t need a Kardia. —I’m having my 3rd Holter 24 hour monitor attached in a week’s time ,although i’m never told any results.— and so as I said ,I just keep trying to grin and bear it !Keep well and have as good a Christmas as you possibly can.

The Kardia will work with your iPad. And is really easy to use.

You don’t need a phone as well.

I have both Omron blood pressure checker and a Kardia.

In my opinion Omron is little better than feeling your own pulse as it just tells you if you have an irregular heart beat but does not give any further information. There are numerous rhythms. Very good for Blood Pressure.

On the other hand a Kardia, which can pair with either an iPad or iPhone, provides an ECG that many Cardiologists approve of.

Both gadgets are simple to use even for a 73 year old person like me.

Pete

I use a Microlife Watch Home BP monitor which will give you a BP reading, HR reading and it will also give you data when you are in AF. This is approved by NICE here in UK. It is simple, runs off battery, operates with an upper arm cuff as in GP surgery and is non technical.

Maybe this is what you are thinking of.
