I have been giving dad whey protein shake but I want to add the amount of protein so was thinking of adding a non dairy source such as soya protein or pea protein.
Is it alright to take a soya based protein shake or other soya and tofu products on a regular basis ?

I think your dad is around my age and i have been doing protein (amino acid) supplements for at least five years. When I stopped eating meat I felt I needed to add more protein especially on days I workout at the gym or trail. each serving consists of Whey protein isolate25g is my main protein, my plant based protein powder Orgain brand ingredients are made up of pea protein, acacia, brown rice, mung bean and chia seeds 21g I also do PB (peanut butter) consists of peanut flour, and coconut palm. 8g. I frequently add the PB to my whole grain cereal and cultured lowfat milk breakfast meal.
Do you add additional protein to your own diet? If you don't mind me asking are you the son or daughter?
I had my muscle estimate calculated at my gym recently and the trainer said I was approximately 34%, I think he said that was above average for an old man so I'm guessing it works. I also added creatine because it was said us older folks lack these three amino acids found in your muscles. I just last month started taking another amino acid HMB which is supposed to prevent muscle breakdown while supporting recovery.
I think you understand that question you just asked about protein is going to get 50-100 opinions, and that's all they are opinions. I suggest you start slow and see what works .
I have been giving him whey protein but thought of giving some more in the form of plant protein rather than adding more dairy protein. I want to try and avoid his LDL cholesterol from going up as as per Dr Myers , that can be used to make dht testosterone when ADT depletes the T. As of now he gets around 40’gm protein a day. His weight is around 75 kilos.
Peanuts are legumes, rich in protein. The butter might be just a Reference to consistency for spreading. We buy roasted peanuts a grind them at the store, turns them into “peanut butter”. Check it out nutritional snack food also. It’s 6am here and I’m on my way to the gym , join me!
My look into Soy showed a double-edged sword. It seems at earlier stages it can be beneficial and later it can become harmful. I would access some studies before implementing too much on a regular basis. I eat edamame when I can, but do not make it a huge part of my diet.
correct. Studies have shown both ways, but the conservative consensus is it is beneficial at the beginning stages and becomes more detrimental as it advances. I wouldn't go crazy with consumption levels, but small amounts from fod sources only in early stages is worth a try. themossreport.com
After 6 years of ADT treatment and eating mostly a plant-based diet, my muscle mass decreased considerably and I started to pull muscles easily. I started to drink whey protein drinks (puori protein powder) and a scoop of collagen peptides every day. I was always afraid that the whey protein may increase my PSA, but it hasn’t. Plant-based protein powders are good but many contain heavy metals and pesticides. For that reason, I went with the whey protein. Puori is part of the clean label project, and tests each batch for contaminants. Along with weight-bearing exercise, my muscle mass has improved and I injure myself less frequently. Good luck to you.
