Is soya milk advisable for APC,?

TA posted last week that 'cow juice' is safe to drink, so allow it in Tea, coffee. I switched my husband over to Almond milk a few months back for cereals( rolled oats ) . My question is how do people on this site feel about Soya milk, is it a good idea or not ? I know that soya milk is slightly estrogenic, so is that good for PC or not ? My husband is now only on 3 monthly Lupron shots, would it interfere, or enhance.

Would be grateful for your input

Anastrozole is also sold as Arimidex in the UK. Good luck finding a doctor who will prescribe it.

I would find another substitute for real milk. Or better still, scrap the cereal & eat a proper breakfast. LOL

As a vegetarian I used to use soy milk on my cereal. For the past 8 years I use almond milk. I only drink one cup of coffee pre day so I allow myself the luxury of 1/2 & 1/2 .

I’ve been using soy milk for about 5 years now to avoid dairy and been using estradiol patches per Dr. Myers and Dr. Sartor for nearly as long to provide relief of ADT SE’s. PSA remains undetectable during that time. I’m enjoying some vanilla Silk in my coffee as I write this.

Bovine milk may have been milked from a pregnant cow (common in U.S., but I don't know about UK standards) which introduces additional estrogen beyond the chemicals injected into the cow by the farmer (again I don't know UK restrictions if any). Some may say its OK to drink milk from a cow, but I will let them have that "juice" intended for a calf weighing several hundred pounds. Soy milk is my preference.

It's prudent to avoid milk because of the IGF-I.

You guys (CalBear, pjoshea) are too much, LOL. It should be noted that milk products can increase inflammatory markers in the gut. It is claimed that milk from European cows are less antigenic and that goat and sheep milk are even less so. On the other hand fermented products, such as yogurt and kefir, do not have IGF-I (according to PMID: 31089868 DOI: 10.1007/s00394-019-01994-7) and other hormones). Generally, fermented products are good for the gut microbiome, in particular kefir (and especially from grass fed cows). Cheers, Phil

I use Oat milk or coconut milk as a substitute for dairy and soy (with my breakfast concoction).

Soy gave me very bad gas during treatments (my Naturopath) and was told to avoid it completely.

If you want to have soy in your diet, I might take some miso because it is fermented and acts like a probiotic.

Just call it food for thought.

Thankyou all for your replies, im still a bit confused, but will probably stick with the almond milk for my hubbie.

in reply to 16starsky

I hope the almond milk 'agrees' with your husband. Year ago I tried some in my cereal and had the worst constipation ever. Carrageenan effect?

I understand the aversion to soy generally, but What about genistein? It seems to have support as a useful supplement.

How did you get your doctor to prescribe it for you?

Soy milk gave me gas . I prefer hemp or almond milk ..I think in coffee let him use what he wants.. soy is said to help with hot flashes . I prefer edamame . Two handfuls a day is good ..I’ve been told by my Nat. Dr that some soy is ok ,but it shouldn’t be main source of protein . But What do I know? I also like tofu... Take care 16starsky ..

Darn Nal, I loved yams, thanksgiving will never be the same ..😂

Hello 16starsky, I acknowledge that the consumption of soya products is controversial and have debated whether to discontinue them. For me it has been difficult to shift to a plant based diet without the consumption of soya based products. I wanted to mention that have been consuming unsweetened soya milk with my groats and rye berries and eating bean curd for dinner on a regular basis since diagnosis in early 2016 with mHSPCa. My PSA is presently stable at 0.1 ng/ml. This does not prove that soya based products are safe. And it should be noted that I have also eaten in small portions oriental yams on a regular basis as well. There may be benefits with respect to bone health because soya milk and curd are good sources of dietary calcium. I will for the present continue with the current diet. Cheers, Phil

the old soy myth is just that....a myth and has been disproved. I make my own organic, non gmo soymilk daily. Soy is actually a SERM and can be beneficial for PCa patients. mdanderson.org/publications...

There are tons of studies that show organic soy is actually beneficial and certainly don't cause harm.

I’m not sure how good it is for you, but oat milk is the best milk substitute I have found. We love it! And since it’s made from oat I don’t think it would be bad for you… We buy it at Costco in boxes did you know how to be refrigerated until you open it. It’s very easy to use. It does have a bit of high calorie but it’s worth it to me! Good luck

Hi John,We have been using oat milk now for 2 years, cant drink it in tea, have it black now. But its ok on cereals , etc..

Infact its getting a little difficult to get hold of in the UK at the moment, think everyone has jumped on the bandwagon with this now ! Hope you and your Husband are both ok (and your little doggie)xx

We are still moving! I have been talking to his doctor because he’s getting a little worse especially in the late afternoon early evening through the evening. I hope he can up the dosage of the drug he’s been using. He tried a different drug for about two months on top of the old drug and It did nothing. The original drug he’s on help so much. We think a little bit more might do the trick. Good luck with your milk issues.
