Can we try Enzalutamide when Abiraterone failed , Just before chemotherapy

Hello all ,

MY father has failed Abiraterone and planned to have PSMA PET scan(on 25th Sept), after that chemotherapy will start in few days . Now he is experiencing constant back and leg pain which relieves only after taking pain killer.

So, can we take Enzalutamide for this period before chemotherapy , will it ease the pain and held up the progression ?

Thanks all for your kind reply.

After Abiraterone fails Enzalutamide will work for two to three months. How well it works for your father you have to observe.

Thanks , thinking to experiment

This is not an experiment. Most doctors switch to Enzalutamide when Abiraterone fails. Enzalutamide will not work for long and then a chemo is indicated.

In my case doctor was not interested when i asked about enzalutamide , he said it will not make much difference

Agree, Try to ask him to do enzalutamide + ADT + chemo that's call triplet therapy. I think that's proven good results for many patients.

my suggestion to start enzalutamide before chemo so you can fix the enzalutamide's side effects and jump on chemo so easy to deal with chemo's side effects.

He should discuss using it together with docetaxel as in the PRESIDE trial:

Hello Tall- Allen. My PSA began rising about 2 yrs ago. Largest tumor was radiated which brought PSA back down below .05. Since then, it has risen at 3 month intervals to .06, .07, .09, .14, .17 and last month it hit .20. Assuming PSMA scan in 2 months shows changes, I assume you believe the Preside trial results would apply to me and that I should switch from Abi to Enza and add DOCETAXEL to my Lupron? What are you thoughts on having me switch from Prednisone to DEX before that?

You can try. You've been treating your PSA, so IDK if it will work.

HI- I believe I am in a similar boat. I assume from your profile and from experience that you are also taking Lupron with your Abiraterone.

I have been on Lupron and Abi for most of my 12 years, except for a few “vacations” during my first 5 yrs. My PSA has been rising with small numbers for over a yr now closer to 2 yrs). Last month it finally hit .20 but my MO wanted to wait another 3 months before giving me a PSMA. I won’t be surprised if Enza and DOCETAXEL are my next steps.

Good luck!
