Interesting question. My father's recent blood test (which showed elevated PSA) also showed that his creatinine levels are up. Haven't done a urine test but he has been taking protein supplements since the last 3 months.

I have read that kidneys being part of the urinary system can influence PSA - a kidney infection for example

According to your Bio it looks like you still have your prostate intact. So it's possible that it has been irritated by the acute kidney disease. That extra protein coming down from the kidneys could be triggering an inflammatory response in the urethra that could be getting into the prostate and irritating it as well. Did they test you for a UTI as well?
