Tamsulosin

I'll try keep this short as possible, I had 5 sessions of radio therapy in June 2023, after 1 month my urinating was giving me problems, the oncologist forwarded to my gp to prescribe 400mg, but after only 2 weeks ago I asked my gp about tamsulosin I never received, she looked it up, apologised to me and said I should of been taking them 14 months ago, anyway am on them but feel like crap, tired, still fatigued, urinating isn't improved as yet? Any thoughts about tamsulosin? Will they eventually work for me?

I was on it for 4-5 months, but took myself off. Now eating 10-12 cranberries each morning and seems to help. There is much documentation that cranberries help against UTI, and maybe other aspects regarding urination.

Took it for a while long ago; it did nothing for me.

It looks like I'll be going down the same road

I expect my story is fairly common: (1) ever-decreasing urine flow, (2) took Tamsulosin with no effect, (3) TURP procedure that worked great for a couple of years, (4) decreased urine flow returned, (5) second TURP procedure by a complete-idiot doctor… TURP failed; I was worse, (6) changed urologist who immediately ordered MRI and urodynamincs tests , (7) prostate cancer strongly inducated, (8) fusion biopsy confirmed cancer: Gleason 9, widespread bone mets, (9) refrred to oncologist and Triplet treatment began, (10) a year and a half later PSA is stable st 0.05, mets decreased. The story goes on…

Tamsulosin worked immediately for me. Within a day of starting it my urination problems improved dramatically. I’ve been on it for almost seven years and it continues to work. Doubled the dosage during RT, which helped, but reduced to the original dosage after RT.

Thanks for your reply, it's another one it works for some but not all, I've only been on them for 2 weeks, sometimes it burns a bit when am peeing! Not sure if that's the tablets? I will give them a few more weeks

I found that 1 Rapaflo worked better than 2 Flomax for me. There are about a dozen different alpha blockers you can try. Experiment (urologists often get free samples) to find one that works for you.

Thanks, I'll look into that

Was it .4mg Rapaflo replacing two .4mg Flomax?

Tamsulosin gave me bradycardia. I am taking Myrbetriq now with good results.

I've never heard of Myrbetriq, but I'll keep that in mind, Thank you

My husband is on myrbetriq (25mg) and silodosin (8mg) and this has been the perfect combination for him.

tamsulosin did nothing for me it can't fix physical obstructions.

my ability to urinate successfully varies with no rhyme or reason. urologist recommends occasional self catheterization to keep things open not sure if this does anything because there is no baseline for comparison

check into urolift which can help if ??? helped me for a while until medical mistreatment and emergency surgery

Tamsulosin was a miracle drug for me. Urination was extremely difficult and emptying the bladder a real job. I saw results after just one dose, and still have no side effects after 9 months. I hope you find your miracle drug.

That is very positive, it is a minefield concerning these tablets, many posstives and the opposite, I've only been on them for 2 weeks, have another 2 weeks supply before I send for more, still the same problem but urged to wee more since taking them! I suppose I have to give them time and see?
