question about going to Mayo

we have an appointment to see Dr Sartor at Mayo but my husband has read Dr Kwon helps refer patients out of the country for Actinium 225. We saw Dr Sartor when he was at Tulane.

Will we be able to discuss Atinium w Dr Sartor or should we also try to see Dr Kwon? What’s the appropriate etiquette?

Thank you for any guidance.

My husband is castrate resistant and recently developed skeletal mets. PSA is rising. Still no liver etc. But time to make next treatment decision.

No chemo yet.

Sartor is like a god of prostate oncology, with special knowledge of radiopharmaceuticals, and you want to see Kwon who is not even an oncologist??

You answered my question. Thank you. Have not read about Kwon myself. Husband did. Didn’t know he is not an oncologist. Your guidance is always helpful. I was hoping you’d respond. Thank you👍

You have a clinical trial running with actinium 225 in a St Vincent's Hospital in Sydney, Darlinghurst by professor Emmett.

Go with Sartor. He is very knowledgeable.

I rely upon an independent multi-disciplinary team, including oncologists and even non-oncologists. If I was going to the Mayo and could also be seen by Dr Kwon, I would. After gathering as much information as I can I decide my path and which doc's I will work with.

I have seen both Dr. Sartor and Dr. Kwan. Both are very competent in their fields and I like both. Regarding out of US referrals , I don't know about Dr. Sartor but Dr. Kwan talked to me about it at one point. It isn't relevant to me at this point. Both are very experienced in treating prostate cancer. Both seem to be knowledgable but I like Dr. Sartor better because he takes time to answer my questions whereas Dr. Kwan is always in a rush. Also, Dr. Kwan is a urologist with a special interest and expertise in prostate cancer but I prefer a trained and experienced oncologist which Dr Sartor is.

I’ve been seeing Sartor since Snuffy Myers retired, and made the trek to Mayo last summer so I can continue as his patient (travel to Louisiana was much easier for me) and continue to plot a course of treatment going forward. I don’t think you’ll do better than sticking with Sartor in my opinion. For such a brilliant guy he has a great down to earth way about him. And you’ll be very impressed with Mayo, I can see why they’re ranked #1 in the US. If you need any tips on navigating Rochester and Mayo feel free to pm me.

Both Kwon and Sartor are considered the experts in this area. Each is highly respected in the medical community both nationally and internationally. I have seen Dr. Kwon and am very impressed with him and his team. He is on top of the latest therapies and is very aggressive. I have not seen Dr. Sartor but he is highly regarded.

Nano MRI's suggestion is worth considering. Agree with EdBar's comments about Mayo. The place runs like a well oiled machine.
