i don't think there is a certain PSA level. just a desire to eliminate ADT. if your PC is castrate sensitive and your PSA is rising or there is other evidence such as radio graphic progression, reducing your testosterone by any means is beneficial whether by ADT or orchiectomy, your choice.
I had mine done with PSA at 1.0 and 2 Mets 3 years ago. PSA slowly declined over 2 years to .35 but it has slowly increased to .60 over the last year. Still have 2 Mets. I'm considering Xtandi or Doci chemo next. Good luck on your decision.
I had an orchiectomy last October. There was never any mention of a specific PSA that I needed to have. I simply done it because I was tired of Lupron injections that I had been getting for 5 years. My testosterone levels are the same now as when I was on Lupron.
Hello I am currently considering an Orchiectomy to get off the poison of Lupron. Did you experience any difference in side effects between the two? Also has anyone had their T not reduced with an Orch? Dr. said if that happens I have to go back on Lupron.
I had the Orchiectomy about four months ago. I haven’t really noticed any difference as far as side effects, the only side effects I really felt with all my years on Lupron was losing my muscle and gaining a little more body fat. Since it’s only been a few months, it’s hard for me to say for sure of any of that has changed. I have had my testosterone checked, and it is basically the same as when I had Lupron. An odd thing that I don’t know if his related or not is my PSA levels have risen substantially since I had the orchiectomy. I finished 10 rounds of chemo late August last year, and my PSA was down quite a bit. Had the Orchiectomy in Oct. when I check my PSA in November, it had nearly doubled.
Of course using Knitting needles for the procedure is out of the question...
Good Luck, Good Health and Good Humor.
