Have been taking Eligard and Erleada, my Doctor wants to add Docetaxel Chemo. Would like to hear about others being treated the same way!

4 rib mets and 2 right pelvic mets, bx diagnosed Sept '23, Eligard 6mo subcutaneous injection Sept and Started Erleada October 11th. Just had first PSA drawn no result yet. Doctor wants to send me to Oncologist for a consult on Docetaxel. Calls it Triplet therapy. My mother had metastatic breast cancer and her experience with Chemo was awfulso I have concerns. Thanks for reply

Did your mother have docetaxel? All chemos are different.

Triplet is your best option.

I really do not recall her drug. I have a limited medical background and understand that all drugs are different! I thank you for the triplet response. From reading other posts, I gather that docetaxel can be tolerated. I am going to a good oncology center at a large regional hospital, and there is a renowned Cancer facility nearby that actually developed the Psa test. The standard of care locally is based on their research. Most of what I have read does not mention apalutamide in triplet therapy so I guess that is my real question as to the efficacy of this triplet therapy vs. Enzalutamide. Thanks

Triplet has only been proven with abiraterone or darolutamide. I can't think of any reason why it wouldn't work with apalutamide too.

I guess I will find out then. Thanks for your response! On another issue I had Bariatric Roux-n-y in 2006, will smaller stomach and different absorption route affect any of my oral meds to your knowledge? Also am a recovering alcoholic, should I be extra cautious of my liver profile during treatment in your opinion? So many things to consider, I turned 70 a couple days before the elevated PSA came in. one heck of a birthday present! LOL

I'm sure your MO monitors your liver enzymes, and will back-off the dose if they get alarmingly elevated. I think all those drugs are absorbed through the intestines and not the stomach.

currently on the triplet regimen. I am tolerating the chemo very well but I understand it can be different for others.

Good luck

Thanks, I have had no problems with the Eligard and Erleada except for some night sweats on occassion and a hotflash now and then. Almost 2 months in now. I am hoping the the Chemo does not cause too much of an issue because quality of life is excellent right now! Good luck with your journey - keep me posted! Cleantop

Mine was long gone due to alcohol abuse and Finasteride!

For me, the side effects of docetaxel were easier to deal with than side effects from Lupron. My triplet was docetaxel plus Lupron plus radiation of lymph nodes outside the local area. It gave me 4-5 years of undetectable PSA.

The docetaxel dose used for prostate cancer is significantly less than for breast cancer.
