Does anyone have experience with taking romiplostim (nplate)? Can taking it disqualify you from clinical trials in the future?

Good Afternoon Ladies and Gentlemen, Say can anyone in this audience tell us what Romiplostim is. Oh I see just one hand raised by that gentleman in the back of the room. Sir would you be kind enough to tell us your name? Did you say it's "Wiki" and it's your first name . Please be kind enough to tell us your surname Oh it's "Pedia". Now can you tell us the meaning of Romiplostim. Thank you.

Romiplostim, sold under the brand name Nplate among others, is a fusion protein analog of thrombopoietin, a hormone that regulates platelet production.

The drug was developed by Amgen through a restricted usage program called NEXUS.[1] During development and clinical trials the drug was called AMG531.[2]

Medical uses

Romiplostim is indicated as a potential treatment for chronic idiopathic (immune) thrombocytopenic purpura (ITP).[3] Romiplostim was designated an orphan drug by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in 2003, as the chronic ITP population in the USA is under 200,000 (the chronic adult ITP population in the USA is thought to be around 60,000, with women outnumbering men by a factor of two).[4] The wholesale cost of romiplostim if administered weekly is currently estimated at US$55,250 per year.[5]

On August 22, 2008, the FDA approved romiplostim as a long-term treatment for chronic ITP in adults who have not responded to other treatments, such as corticosteroids, intravenous immunoglobulin, Rho(D) immune globulin or splenectomy.[1][6]

Hi j-o-h-n,

Thanks for replying! I was hoping to hear from someone with firsthand experience taking this treatment. My dad has experienced low blood counts since pluvicto, and this was mentioned by his MO in passing at a prior appointment. Just wondering if someone on the forum had any input.

You're welcome...Sometimes you may have to post these same questions on a different Day (or days) to get a response. Generally if a med name seems "weird" to me I will research it and post it for me and others to view. Give my best regards to your Dad (and you too)....
