If anyone is taking Quercitin, I would appreciate knowing which manufacturer you use

My Dr has suggested I start taking this.

FWIW, Walgreens carries Quercetin. Best to check online for which store near you has it.

It seems to be associated with supplements for prostate cancer.

A number of years ago the advanced practice nurse of my radiation oncologist recommended I take it.

Then my Medical Oncologist, Dr. Myers, when I talked to him, said nah nah she's just a Nurse and she doesn't really get it.

Does anyone know by what mechanism it's supposed to work. And is it supposed to prevent pc, or fight pc once you have it?

podsart profile image
podsart in reply tocesces

interesting. I am also a past Dr Myers patient. In an unusual twist, my current Dr that Dr Myers recommended that I transfer to, for the 1st time suggested a supplement [normally I have to ask] and this is the supplement. He said there were some good newer studies.

cesces profile image
cesces in reply topodsart

Who are you using now?

I have never found a good replacement for Myers. LoL

It's an imperfect world.

podsart profile image
podsart in reply tocesces

yea, I use Dr Drake

cesces profile image
cesces in reply topodsart

How does Drake's style of practice compare with Myers.

I have been using Sartor. He just moved to Mayo clinic.

I haven't followed him there yet.

Wow this Snuffy Meyers must have had a huge practice… I hear about him a lot. Patients must have been hanging from the rafters. Did he have the disease himself?

cesces profile image
cesces in reply toKevinski65

He was a researcher about to be promoted to run the NIH when he was diagnosed with metastatic prostate cancer that was supposed to kill him.

He managed to cobble together his own course of treatment and survive.

He discovered much of what he had been teaching his medical students about prostate cancer back then was just plain wrong.

He retired and started his own practice dedicated to prostate cancer. He must have had a few thousand prostate cancer patients.

He basically front ran the medical centers of excellence on treatment protocols by about 5 to 10 years. And they all watched what he was doing very carefully.

He had one person on his staff dedicated to reading the literature to bird dog the interesting research for him.

He basically had an in depth understanding of ALL the pathways embedded into his memory. He would combine his informed intuition with the published research to inform his protocols.

He was pretty much respected and watched by everyone in the field.

And he's retired now but alive?

I believe so. Unrelated health issues forced him to retire.

Are u sure? I see a regular intro to a prostate online mag that he writes, still shows his name—-when did this happen?

Used the "Now Foods" Quercetin with Bromelain for 2+ years but switched lately to "GREENDAY" Quercetin with Bromelain PLUS as it also contains a bit of Zinc, Vitamin C and Rose Hip Extract. Competitively priced as well.

podsart profile image
podsart

thanks-- why would you want bromelain added?

Justfor_ profile image
Justfor_ in reply topodsart

No particular preference for Bromelain. It is a very common combo with Quercetin. Way back when I started taking it I Googled it and found that it has anti-inflammatory properties. My blood labs show some sub clinical inflammation, common to PCa, so I thought why not?

Please ck out a company called Ultra Botanicals I switched to their Quercetin and Curcumin before that was taking whatever seem like best buy with reviews. Bio available is key , so ck out their products.

podsart profile image
podsart in reply to85745

will do, quality control, ensuring ingredients are free of thing like heavy metals [via China production often], etc and ensuring that what you are taking is actually what you wanted

thanks

I use Quercetin and Bromelein from Now Foods.

I’m an Aussie, and order it from iherb.com in the US.

its amazing how many choices there are. i use now products for other supplements, its one supplier that seems to have a good record of quality control etc, always an issue with supplements

I believe Quercetin is a zinc ionophore and also understand that the prostate contains/needs a lot of zinc.

Currumpaw profile image
Currumpaw

Podsart,

Slogar's Quercetin Complex with Ester-C Plus and LifeExtension's Optimized Quercetin are good choices.

Someone mentioned bromelain to assist absorption. If you like black pepper as a seasoning that will also help your body absorb nutrients.

Another good supplement is Kyolic Immune Formula #103.

Remember that when foods, supplements derived from foods are coupled it can magnify their effectiveness. It is best to keep those providing your health care aware of and in agreement with the supplements you are taking. Some time with a Doctor of Naturopathy can be helpful. Some supplements and drugs shouldn't be mixed.

My best to you,

Currumpaw

thanks, i use kyolic for a another supplement, not sure of the quality control of Solgar

yes, i always coordinate with my dr

Be well my friend!

Hello podstart! Though I live in Europe and it's more costly here (through Amazon.de from Germany), I take a cap of NOW brand Quercitin. I chose it because it's mixed with Bromelain, which makes the dose more easily absorbed by /available to, our system. I've been taking Quercitin for a few years, but switched to the NOW brand a couple of months ago. Keeping the faith!

For quercetin modes of action in prostate cancer see:

doi.org/10.1016/j.biopha.20...

Be careful in your selection of quercetin supplements There is a lot of false and misleading labeling. ConsumerLab found some tested products contained far less quercetin than advertised. Their top pick is actually one of the least expensive: MRM Nutrition Quercetin.

Also be wary of quercetin products selling at much higher cost claiming to be up to 40 x more bioavailable than “regular” quercetin. ConsumerLab found these claims to be highly misleading and are based on tiny industry sponsored studies of dubious quality. The best way to enhance absorption of quercetin is to consume it with a higher fat meal.

podsart profile image
podsart in reply toCygnus52

thanks, seems each clinical article has a somewhat different take as to the bio mechanism of this substance

yea, supplements present a real problem as to quality control, verifiable impacts and SEs, and real bio availability

I've used two main brands for better bioavailability. Here's one:

Natural Factors, Bioactive Quercetin EMIQ, Supports Sinus, Respiratory and Immune Health, Capsule 60 Count (Pack of 1) a.co/d/hctEBTj

Here's another:

Bioclinic Naturals - EMIQ Activated Quercetin, 60 vcaps a.co/d/06FenOW

Keep in mind that quercetin has a very low bioavailability. These two brands say they're better, but I'm not sure any brand has been lab tested for bioavailability, which is complicated to do.

JohnInTheMiddle profile image
JohnInTheMiddle in reply todhccpa

Most of my supplements including Quercetin also come from Natural Factors. The company is based in Canada's British Columbia province.

Because I'm concerned about quality and contamination etcm I researched several supplement providers and have been happy with Natural Factors. The company's history is very interesting and there's a lot of continuity and commitment. They have also pioneered some of the absorbability technologies that are making a difference with some supplements.

We get order ours online from Pure Encapsulations.com, because the M.D. who runs our cancer support group has visited their facility and verified that their products are tested regularly by an independent lab.

My father has been following, and has had a few telemedical calls with my favorite MD that is now a naturopathic practitioner specializing in urological care for me, including, ED, cancer, and all men's health issues. I URGE all men to follow Dr. Geo Espinosa out of NYC.

drgeo.com/

His newsletters and podcasts are EXTREMELY helpful from a different perspective.

In the last call with Dr. Geo ( I sat in) he spoke of being on both sides of cancer. The teaching hospital Langone University that he works for, and the naturopathic side. I Urge you all to sign up for his newsletter and get a bit of both.
