Pain

Hi All,

My husband is having pretty significant pain in his back. He is already taking Norco but it only dulls it. The pain is making him uncomfortable and taking a toll on him. When he asks his onc and GP they suggesting adding ibuprofen. I don’t think that’s going to help someone with wide spread metastatic disease. What are others taking and who’s prescribing it?

Taking 20mg Oxycontin 3 times a day, Oycodone 10mg every hour as pain requires, I'm taking around 6-8 tablets a day, Diclopram 20mg 2 times a day and Neurontin 600mg at night.

Still struggling with pain.

Just curious how you stay awake with those meds. One Percocet had me napping the afternoon away. Do you adjust to them with time?

The pain specialist doubled these pain meds before Xmas, I will also get the results to a MRI this Friday, in the hope of some radiation treatment for the pain

I hope you do get some relief. I've just experienced a few nights of severe pain, and can't imagine it lasting for months.

Pain varies greatly from one person to another. Some have bone mets and no symptoms. If you are able to move about that helps greatly. I usually get by with only Celebrex (from my GP), but currently am having an issue that's limiting my exercise and now I'm experiencing significant pain for the first time since diagnosis.

Is spot radiation at painful areas an option? Gave quick relief to my Dad with extensive bone Mets. The RO was surprised not offered sooner.

My MO said no because the whole body has Mets, the pain specialist thinks it's possible because most of the pain is in the Femurs where it got into the Marrow and did the most damage, and the reason why she did the MRI, she plans to consult with a RO on this option.

On the whole I'm happy with my MO but unhappy about his unwillingness to help with my pain issue (although he did refer me to pain specialist after a lot of pushing), I have been in pain for 14 months.

Stick me. Fluoroscope guided transforaminal epidural steroid injections. Not for everyone but gives me relief.

MY pain seldom gets much useful response from any of my docs. I think unless they have personally experienced great pain there is no way they can properly judge a response.

MY anecdotal study of one is that no amount of Norco could fully resolve my extreme mets pain down to tolerable.

I found that regular measured amounts of CBD from tincture every 6 hours reduced about 70% of MY pain down to tolerable.

I dose about 50 to 100mg of CBD subliminally a day. Reduced Norco from 12+ down to 2.

For ME that's more than a fair trade.

I sleep much better now. Feel much better because of the quality sleep. No APCa cure but never expected a cure, only looking for pain reduction.

Can you share what brand / potency of CBD you get and where you get it? Does it have any adverse side effects as you go about your day?

I live in California and in my small town ( by CA standards ) cannabis driveway delivery services abound. I’ve had the opportunity to try many different cbd products personally , but in my case ... thc products are the only ones that relieve my pain. Everyone is different tho. Several friends swear by a cbd / thc liquid product that is emu oil based. This would only be permissible in a cannabis legal state. I’ve also used this product and it worked well for me too ( my current doc forbids my using cannabis products now ). My friends train of thought is that cannabis is a complex mix of alkaloids and just singling out just one or two doesn’t do the job properly. They use a dropper too two under the tongue, once or twice a day. I found this product to be a bit “ stony “ even in single dropper amounts. Your experience would vary depending on your tolerance for cannabinoids. That product is emu420 mango medicated elixir. I also found this product to be very beneficial for a good nights sleep and I can experience considerable met discomfort. This product s surprisingly expensive tho.

As always , PLEASE run this by your medical support team to make sure they are on the same page with you and that there are no contraindications for your current treatments. This is very important.

Peace brothers ✌️✌️✌️

There are no side effects for ME. Your mileage of course may vary. I am able to sleep better so it likely relaxes ME some.

I generally get from diamondCBD.com. This is in no way a promotion for their company. There are many distributors. I have evolved over the last year to starting with the highest strength 30ml bottle, 3500mg, in Olive oil,+ they offer, then dose every 6 hours based on reducing pain to tolerable. Every one of the 600 drops in bottle are about 6mg in this case. I put about 6 drops give or take on 1\2 an oyster cracker and hold under tongue till mostly dissolved. You can purchase any strength and do the math.

There are always 50% off coupons for the web site. Once you order they will periodically send discount coupons. If you have any problem getting a coupon contact me privately.

Pain, it is the common denominator and this post is excellent. Everyone has a different tolerance for pain as well as the effectiveness of different drugs.

Although my view on treatment is to go by the book, when it comes to pain, one has to do what one has to in order to get by. YOU should NEVER Suffer if by taking whatever works, will assist and give you a better and higher quality of life.

For many that is getting stoned and if that is what it takes, then try med weed in its many versions.

For end stage guys, there is no point in holding back for fear of addiction, as my best friend was worried about. Once he accepted that, his remaining days were more at peace.

Do not stop looking and trying, because the one thing we can control over the war, is to not suffer any more than we have to. Rock on boys, while the sun still shines.

My dad’s radiation oncologist prescribed a Fentanyl 25mcg patch , used every 3 days. He took Tylenol ES if needed. Neurontin was prescribed,200mg 3 x a day, but he took 1 in the am 2 in the afternoon and 3 at bedtime. It was for his neuropathy in his legs, prescribed by his general oncologist. He had mets to his scapula and multiple areas in the skull, spine & ribs. He used a heating pad for his shoulder. His shoulder was radiated x 2. All this helped him.

I hope your husband gets relief. 🙏🙏

I also have had bad back pain from compressed disks in the lumbar area. I was sent to a neurosurgeon who told me that physical therapy was the first step. This was very helpful. I increased my core strength, legs, glutes and continuing these exercises makes a difference.

I still have pain and take pain Celebrex and sometimes Tylenol at night. I take smallest dose that I can, unless pain become extreme from overdoing daily activities. If your husband is able, I think this might be a better avenue to pursue. A good PT can adjust the rigor of the exercises to match patient's condition and tolerance. People typically eventually develop a tolerance to pain meds. I think that putting the heavy prescription pain killers and heavy use of OTC painkillers should be delayed as long as possible.

I hope you find what works for him and that you can maintain your quality of life to the highest level possible. Good luck!

I have used THC / CBD for one year now. The mg’s of both vary but right now I am using 600mg THC with 20 mg of CBD. This has helped with bone pain ( or any cancer pain ) and is a life saver for hot flashes.
