Arrythmias on Zytiga

i am finishing my19th month of degarelix and abiraterone. Over the past 3-4 months pvc/arrythmias have gotten more frequent progressing to daily. In fact at my last two injections the nurses have asked if I have a history of arrythmias given my HR was so irradict. So my question is do I request a dose reduction from my MO or switch to another agent for the remained of the 24 month regimen? Or just finish the 24 months with ADT (degarelix).? Abiraterone ends march 1, 2024. So I’d be 5 months short.

I believe I also have similar problems with arrythmias like you and I am only on degarelix for more than 5 years now. I hope that the arrythmias are not life threatening arrythmias. If they are not life threatening than I would rather not medicate myself further with Betta blockers etc. My problem could be also related to my sleep apnoea. Therefore it is not applicable to you.

Maybe you should see a cardiologist for opinion.

I wish you all the best.

See a cardiologist if you have not already. I had a full workup. Flunked a stress test with pvc's showing. Had a cath and found a peripheral artery blocked 50-60%. I'm on a beta blocker now with no issues. Of course all this happened after I stopped my meds, Your mileage may vary.

I already do and have for years. Nothing unusual showed up in my most recent stress echo or EKG .

Flecainide may be an option if your heart is not damaged. Otherwise the drug itself can lead to heart failure. Been taking the big F for four years now after ablation failed. PVCs went up to 10000 or 10 percent of beats per day. The big F serves to knock the PVCs down to a couple hundred per day, and keeps Afib at bay. Had diagnosed cancer reaching the one year mark. This drug was a life saver for me, with beats in my throat continuously

Every case is different, but my MO instantly took me off abiraterone when I developed an irregular heart beat (after about 3 months or so.

I have written about this before.

An aunt who had a triple bypass was prone to arrythmia. I brought her a bottle of CoQ10. She took two of the gel capsules daily. Her arrythmia disappeared until she fell. A broken hip and shoulder resulted from the fall. The hip was an easy fix. The shoulder wasn't. An artificial joint was placed on the humerus of her arm below her shoulder which was fixed in place. She was in and out of the hospital and nursing home rehabbing. I had a call from my cousin to come to the hospital. She was hooked up and her vitals were displayed. She was on palliative care, expected to die and too ill to move. I looked at her readouts. Her heart rate was bouncing between 115 and 155! She was 89 years old with that peak heart rate! I asked my cousin if she was still taking CoQ10. "Not since she has been in the hospital and nursing home" was his answer. I told him to talk to her doctor and ask if we could give her CoQ10. Surprisingly the hospital's pharmacy has CoQ10 and she was given a pill in the mid afternoon and another in the evening. The following day, after her next pill in the AM, her heart rate stabilized in the 80's. A nurse assisted her for a morning stroll down the corridor and back with her walker!

A kind, elderly, doctor who I admired worked at a walk in clinic. I had a sinus infection. I asked for him as I signed in. He told me that he had had a heart attack! He looked good especially as he was in his mid 80's. He told that he hadn't been sure he could return to work. All the "young" cardio hotshots hadn't been able to solve his arrythmia. The Doc began reading and started taking CoQ10. His arrythmia disappeared! He and another elderly friend resumed their "handball games" as exercise!

Pairing CoQ10 with the supplements PQQ and N-Acetyl-L-Cysteine may be even more helpful as they seem to work synergistically.

Read some research on these supps and make your own decision about taking them if your doctors say they will not cause harm. Remember that my doctor friend had the best cardio docs discussing his case. That was about ten years ago.

Naproxen was my issue. Don’t know if any others take this for pain but it sure wasn’t what my heart was happy with. Just a heads up 🧐

ask your doctor about curcumin and Celebrex for pain. First I recommend you google curcumin and Celebrex to fight prostate cancer.

I encourage you to contact your cardiologist. I had pvc's for years and took a beta blocker. I was told those arrhythmias are benign. Eventually I developed Afib that was detected by an adhesive backed small cardiac monitor that I wore for 2 weeks. I got the monitor because the stress test and ekg didn't catch the Afib but I had all the Afib symptoms like fainting and episodic heart rates up to 350. I now have an implanted cardiac monitor that is under my skin and very small. Your cardiologist might agree to the temporary patch monitor. I've had Holter monitors before and those are much more unwieldy and uncomfortable. You would then know what's happening and if there's any cause for cardiac concerns. Your MO and cardiologist could talk to each other too. My husband who has PCa-Stage 4, also has cardiac issues (congestive heart failure) and his MO has consulted with his cardiologist. Best wishes and I hope your pvc's are benign. Mary
