Taking Zoladex again for recurrance of prostate cancer, hot flashes and mood swings are really bad this time around. l have been given a script for Cyproterone 50mg to ease symptons. Anyone using or have used this for the same reasons. Comments would help.

On Lupron+Abi, I manage hot flashes with MO-prescribed Venlafaxin (37.5 mg works for me, can go up to 75 mg/day.) HF's are not eliminated but rather smoothed out in lower intensity and no sweating.

Sorry to heard what you are going through with ADT and hot flashes. You have many options and should not have to endure severe hot flashes.

The third edition of our book "Androgen Deprivation Therapy: An Essential Guide for Prostate Cancer Patients and their Loved Ones" has just been published. Compared to the 2nd edition, it is greatly updated and substantially expanded. In particular, there are several pages there on alternative ways to reduce hot flash incidence and bother.

The advice in the book about managing ADT side effects, including hot flashes, is evidence-based which accounts for the book getting formal endorsements from both the Canadian Urological Association and The European Association of Urology.

I hope that is helpful.

I manage hot flashes with estradiol patches originally prescribed by Snuffy Myers, been using them for years. They work like a charm and are good for bone health as well.

0.1 mg, I use 2 patches per week, so in other words I remove one patch after 3-4 days and stick a new one on every week. Works great, I used to get severe hot flashes about every hour, now I rarely if ever get them.

Cyproterone (from Wikipeedonme)

Males

CPA has been found to be effective in the treatment of acne in males, with marked improvement in symptoms observed at dosages of 25, 50, and 100 mg/day in different studies.[53][54][55][56] It can also halt further progression of scalp hair loss in men.[57][58][59] Increased head hair and decreased body hair has been observed with CPA in men with scalp hair loss.[60][13] However, its side effects in men, such as demasculinization, gynecomastia, sexual dysfunction, bone density loss, and reversible infertility, make the use of CPA in males impractical in most cases.[57][58][54][55][61][62][63] In addition, lower dosages of CPA, such as 25 mg/day, have been found to be better-tolerated in men.[55] But such doses also show lower effectiveness in the treatment of acne in men.[53]

Hi. I’ve been on Zoladex for 20 months. Also Zytiga + Prednisolone. I get 1-2 hot flashes every day on average. I just go outside to cool down. Trying to avoid additional medication. Overall I find it tolerable. Good luck.
