Is it normal to experience bone, joint, and muscle pain 3-5 days after receiving Xgeva injection? The pain is mostly in my hips, thighs, and spine and lasts about a month. The pelvis area is also affected. Or, are these symptoms from the 3 month Eligard I receive at the same time?
I've been receiving treatment for 46 months. The pain I've described is relatively new.....6 months or so
Not sure why FDA doesn’t mention it, but every website from Mayo to Chemocare to RxList all mention it. Even Amgen who produces denosumab (aka Xgeva and Prolia) mention bone, joint and muscle pain as possible side effects.
Cause doctor's are day dreaming about the yacht they're buying.....Tell him you'll be his cabin boy if he occasionally informs you about your meds side effects....
My Father used to get Zometa infusions (another drug for similar reasons) he found the pain flare from this worse than any of the treatments. We got some advice on this forum and others, taking Claritin daily the week before and after the infusion, drinking a full bottle of isotonic drink immediately after the treatment and preloaded with his pain medication 20mins prior to I fusion. Also we requested a slower infusion which helped. I'm.not sure if any of these will help but I do hope you find relief 🍀
When I was on a similar drug for bone strengthening (ibandronate, Boniva) I had terrible back pain for several months a few days after taking the dose. It took me a while to make the connection. It subsided after a while. Definitely discuss with your doctor.
I'm here because my husband has mcrpc, I only posted about my experience with a drug I was on for osteoporosis (which was effective, so I'm no longer taking it). Exgeva behaves in a similar fashion. My husband is on Exgeva and has had no side effects.
17 years on eligard but no serious side effects apart from fatigue An eligard nurse once told me to put an ice pack on the injection site prior to receiving the injection and that deaden any pain. No problems with xgeva injection over the last 5 years as better than zomenta infusions
When I visited my MO I would tell him I feel fine. No bone pain. That’s when I would also get my Xgeva shot. Next day I would have some pain. Eventually I made the connection. Now I usually have bone aches some nights throughout the month.
