Is having chest burning sensation normal?

hello to everyone, My father's condition has been stable, He takes abiraterone daily and Docetaxel once every 3 months. but for the past month he has been experiencing heartburn when he walks quickly. From what he describes, it sounds like a gastric reflex; we also discussed this with our doctor, who just gave us some medication for his gastric. I'm just curious if anyone else has had this experience.

edit * After speaking with him a little more, he stated that it is not a gastric reflex in which there is acid fluid in your esophagus, but rather a burning sensation along spread across the chest.

i use to take one pill a week for heartburn since I started the Aberitone I take it Dailey, My doctor said it's normal.

I’ve had regular heartburn since I was dx’d. Didn’t have it before. My urologist said it’s possibly caused by the Sildenafil I’m taking daily. Not sure but it’s one of the listed side effects. I take a Pepcid Complete when I go to bed. That mostly controls it.

Is he taking aspirin or an NSAID. Omeprazole should prevent it.

no he is not taking any of those , only prednisolone. it is not gastric reflex from what he said its like a "burning" feel around his chest area only when he walks quickly

Omeprazole takes care of mine... My problem is 50 yr old spinal injury that keeps me from feeling most of the symptoms. My esophagus has scared and closed off to the pt I sometime couldn't swallow anything.. not even saliva. 4 esophageal cut and stretch surgeries have kept me going and the Omeprazole keeps it from coming back.

Prednisone can cause an increase in the production of acid in the stomach. If he has this symptom only during during exercise (walks quickly) he could consider to consult with a cardiologist.

I agree with Tango65 that he consider a cardiologist examination. just to rule out any cardiac involvement. About a year after I began ADT ( just Lupron preceded by Firmagon) I began having cardiac symptoms which required a stent. When he walks quickly does he experience any shortness of breath?

When he walks quickly, he only gets that burning chest sensation and isn't out of breath; he's been active walking around, but it only happens occasionally. Also, because he changed his diet to smaller portions last month, we all assumed that his stomach was acting up because he hadn't eaten much.

I had it happen to me. A CT scan showed a bone met in the chest area. That was causing or does cause my pain.

I have exactly the same symptoms. My oncologist thinks it is acid reflux. I am not convinced. I recently stopped Zytiga and prednisone for a drug “vacation”. The chest pain remains.

I have been taking Abiraterone for over 5 years now and have never had the burning sensation in the chest area. I would like to ask if your dad has ever seen a cardiologist. The burning chest symptom sounds a lot like what I had back in 2013 when I went to my PCP and he immediately sent e to see a cardiologist. The cardiologist said 'we need to put a stint in NOW!" Went to the hospital a week later and when they went to put in the stint found I had several blocked arteries which required having Coronary Bypass surgery to fix the blockages. Sorry for the long comment but if your dad has not seen a cardiologist or had a recent EKG I would see that he sees a cardiologist ASAP!

Also, the fact his blood pressure seems good, should NOT keep him from a visit to the cardiologist. Waiting should not be an option. I was feeling great and only symptom I had was the burning in my chest which would go away briefly with Alka-Seltzer or Tums but come back with a vengeance. Burning in the chest is called Angina which means the heart is not getting enough oxygen. The fact it occurs while or after your dad has taken a walk

It all makes sense now because he only feels the burning sensation when he tries to walk as his daily exercise. We kept thinking that because he had tried to eat very little for the past month in order to lose weight, so we all wondered if it was acid reflux. As long as he walks normally, the burning sensation in his chest will go away. I'll speak with his doctor and try to arrange for a cardiologist to examine him. Thank you for the suggestion; I would never have thought of it.

chest pain triggered by exercise is always concerning for angina. Heart attacks are more common when taking these drugs. I would rule thus out ASAP then work on reflux.

My brother had simiiar symptoms. He had a tumor along his thoracic spine. It was missed during a CT scan, but diagnosed by an MRI. The tumor was resected too late as the tumor caused paralysis. The lesson here is that these symptoms should not be disregarded. Had we caught it in time, the paralysis would not have happened.
