QOL …. Foodie post… mid day appetizer before a spring outdoors afternoon smelling the flowers.

pictured is a nice , extremely easy to prep delicious foodie treat. I like mine removed from the shell…. Cubed up and the cubes wrapped in fresh home made warm Blinis . Yummmmm yummmm. I add a couple of cold Dos Equis w/ lime wedges…. to wash them down with. Bought these at my local R&N Asian market, these were kinda small …… these for both the hammer and myself. R&N has them live in a tank as well ( mine were frozen ) if you want yours super fresh. Bon appétit. ❤️❤️❤️

lost this once, trying again.

Garnishing with fresh sliced black summer truffles is always a great alternative to dipping in hot butter. I just wrap a slice or two in my Bellini wrap. Yummmmm yummmmm.

Freshen shaved black summer truffles with shaver appliance.

I learned a lesson at my Father's funeral - where I drank the quality whiskey he saved for 35 years - saving it for a special occasion - he never got to drink it ... and finding out how much my Mother's estate paid in taxes ( pre tax law changes in 2003 ) - to bad she didn't spend it or give it away

not me - I am gonna die broke - or at least trying. The check to the undertakes should bounce - all due respect to undertakers

Fantastic, what is the recipe for the lobster tails?

Kaliber profile image
Kaliber in reply totango65

not much to it. Cut the tail shell top down the middle …. Slightly into the meat so it will fan out when pulled up. Baste liberally with melted fresh butter … sprinkle on sea salt, white pepper and optionally smoked paprika ( I don’t use it usually but it’s delicious ) …. Preheat the oven broiler ( it’s usually 500f on broil ) and broil in oven 5 - 10 minutes, until the meat is opaque . Tail shells usually turn red but can be just dark. Hint: I stick mine with one of those little stainless steel meat thermometers , looking for 140f . Cool and enjoy.

I also fill 2oz soufflé cups with melted dipping butter , one for each person .

❤️❤️❤️

yummmmm, yummmmmm …. Soon as your wallet gets over it’s nosebleed yayaya. I’m not going to be taking anything with me ,of course , so cost doesn’t mean much. The hammer is well provisioned for, … from her own years of financial planning. So, it’s all guilt free. My leftovers will just be icing on her well decorated cake.

My MO never gave me the line about dying "with" the cancer instead of "from" the cancer. If I gave into my desire for butter and cheese alone, I would actually die with the cancer, but from health issues related to either co-mordities asscociated with me being a 600 pounder, or from having a smile on my face that was so big that my head literaly tore itself in half.

Gotta sign off now and go find my wife's receipe for croissant's topped with Gruyere

I’m on the “ hefty “ side too … somewhat over half your size , but huge. When I started ADT , I was losing 17 lbs a week body weight and instantly started packing on the pounds. Everyone was thrilled, my pcp, oncologist, esp the hammer. They still are. The hammer considers my ADT poundage as giving me a few extra weeks of life if my weights starts plummeting again. The same thought might apply to you as well buddy. Lol

Even having put all the weight on, my cholesterol and triglycerides are fine, I take rosuvastatin 5mg , and it keeps me adjusted fine. My pcp says it will prevent heart attacks as well. ADT has trashed everything about me, especially my scary - strange looking cardiac QRS train, and my small vessel white matter brain matter ( which connects everything ). Croaking “ with “ or “ from “ my aPCa is probably a tossup yayayaya yayayayaya.

I guess tippy toeing through all the physiology BS is surely prudent and has to add to your longevity….. doesn’t it !!! I know I have to do it, to extremes with my BG and about everything else, seems like. I’m seriously dubious about all of it …. tossing all that junk to the wind is way more satisfying yayahahahaya.

After a knee injury in my 50s I dropped a lot of my physical activities. Simultaneously I started traveling a lot to foodie cities. I learned that I’m really good at packing on the pounds. I was pushing 3 bills at diagnosis, but the diagnosis motivated me to go on a mission to strengthen my mind and my organism. My thought was not that this would cure me, but I wanted to be as strong and resilient as I could for the struggles ahead.

I lost a little over 60 lbs the first year after diagnosis (healthily). My primary care dr is now very cavalier about me losing more weight, for much the same reasons as you expressed. He says my body is strong, no diabetes, all cardio indicators are good etc., and that in his opinion the extra poundage won’t hurt when the unhealthy weight loss starts.

Anyhow, my lovely wife loves me this way, and my weight is not my biggest concern anymore.

Kaliber profile image
Kaliber in reply toCarlosbach

ryte ooon ryte oooon …. More interesting parallels between us. My knees were both attacked by Mets, my left knee is disfigured to 3X the size of a normal knee, my right knee 2X ,…..but neither of them would qualify as pain sources much compared to numerous places like multiple spinal locations.

Interestingly, I can eat anything and everything …. and as you can see in my foodie posts, I certainly do ….. oddly my weight stays nearly precisely at one weight, and hasn’t varied 3-5 pounds in the last three years. Dunno how to explain it, ……. it seemingly contradicts about everything we think about eating and overweight. Go figure but works for me yayahahahaya.

For sure for you and I and nearly everyone here on the group, weight isn’t high on our lists of concerns. If it is, then good for the brothers that do rate it high, they are in way better shape than us ….huh ? Yayahahahaya

This is more fun than rubber duckies in the drain pipe !!! ( add your own visuals as you please ).

What you choose to call it, is what you choose to call it. BUT, over the last few years I've had too many strangers with their fingers and instruments up my drain pipe for me to consider adding rubber duckies. The thought causes me to wince and let out a "whoof" even now.

Ironically, my first MO, a kind and caring ex military doc, referred to urologist as plumbers.

omg …. that’s more rubber ducks than I have yayaya. I get the kind that light up when you put them in the water … when the batteries go dead, I just buy more. Handy Hint: when you get too many duckies, just toss a couple , every day or two …. toss them over the fence where that big dog next door lives. Dogs love ‘em 😂😂😂😂😂

yayahahahaya the “ whose a good boys “ love it, the owners couldn’t tell among all the mountains of dog poop piled up in that yard. Just say’in. Being friends with that furbuddy insures he barks , at night, on the opposite side of their yard too. There is a practical side. Fortunately, the prevailing local winds put me “ upstream “ of that unfortunate mess ….. the multiple neighbors on the other side are furious . Ain’t suburbia wonderful ? Yayahahahaya

lol … I liked a lot of their music. It’s also the song that plays on one of my favorite casino games. “ Larry the Lobster Man”. You can get the exact same full version of lobster man to play , free, at home nowadays and just about any other casino game . The casino gives you $1000 to $5000 to start and when you run out of money, just reload the game to play more.

Best and easiest dessert ever (if you like peanut butter):

Nuke about 1/2 cup peanut butter till it melts.

Pour it over scoops of chocolate ice cream.

I think it’s Blinis not Bellinis which is a delightful drink made with Prosecco and peach purée

Your afternoon delight looks delicious!

good catch and absolutely right. It’s also what it says in big letters right on the front on my bag of Russian blini mix.

My spellcheck kept correcting me and I got the same stupid thing from Google, by then I was too exhausted to fix it, so I let the insane trons have their way, and let it ride.

Today I’m rested better, I went back and hand corrected it fighting my spellcheck yayayayaya.

Thanks for jumping in brother, I appreciate it that you are interested enough to do that. That Prosecco drink sounds good too. Post your own QOL foodie or fun activity outdoors or even indoors …. like cooking or fun with a Quest VR goggle ( which are also clinically proven to block pain in children and adults by UCSF Medical Center, S.F. ). It’s all good adding to the camaraderie here and uplifts the gloom .

Preciate it ❤️❤️❤️

Hah! Good to know about the VR goggles 👍🏽

The hubs and I were talking about them just the other day. He’s currently having radiation treatments to the most painful of his bone mets to alleviate pain. It seems to be working. Then he has to figure out how to slowly cut back on the morphine so he doesn’t go into withdrawals.

I will post a QoL photo in May. We’re planning to get remarried for our 40th anniversary. 👏🏽 Maybe we should serve Bellinis?

Kaliber profile image
Kaliber in reply to

yes VR goggles are amazingly effective for pain relief. You can Google “ UCSF VR goggles for pain relief “ and dozens of sites will come up gushing about them. The current model is the Quest II , there are other brands but these are very popular. The down side is that the goggles are pricey ( affordable used on eBay but a crap shoot ) and after you take them off , the effect quickly diminishes. I can only do 3-4 hours lost in amazing VR realities at a time. Yayahahahaya. VR is simply amazing, I like to play the puzzle games where it’s kinda a mystery in a strange place and you solve the puzzles to move on. Red Matter, Shawdow Pointe, Myst, Dark matter, and the fun game with the little mouse named Quill , called Moss on a quest. There are literally dozens more …. Down the Rabbit Hole , an Alice in wonderland adventure etc. the things you can do in VR are brain numbing ( pun ) in variety , ….. walk down streets realistically, literally anyplace on earth, shop the web in a giant screen the size of a skyscraper… totally immersed in a three dementional reality. Special meditation realities scientifically designed to sooth the savage brain , many altered realities . Music and movie realities you have never dreamed of.

Go to a store selling them or search YouTube for excerpts of the popular games …. First … to get an idea of what it is like. VR is very addictive but it’s value to people like us is immeasurable. Just IMHO and the medical world as well.

❤️❤️❤️

btw: don’t worry about getting stuck in a game someplace, there are dozens of “ walkthroughs “ on YouTube that xplain each part of every game … and take away the frustration level in any of the games.

roger that buddy. I still do , most of the time, take my heap of supplements every morning …. and my pcp wants me to keep my bg down below 200 as much as possible with diet ( I’m at the limit of what bg pills can do and insulin isn’t a choice when you are 75 or over ) …. It’s probably nice to think we are doing something for our heart health or general viability, it sure can’t hurt and might add a bit of optimism to the mix. Good stuff.
