Larry: So Harry, what did you do yesterday?

Harry: Well me and Marge went shopping, it was some kind of holiday, something about animal veterinarians.

Larry: lucky you Harry, we stayed home and watched soap opera re-runs. Yuck.

Harry: Too bad, they had these gigantic TV's for sale, showing black and white pictures of I think soldiers fighting in something called World War 2.

Larry: I heard they're going to have that same holiday next year, I can't wait to watch "The days of our lives, reruns" snicker, snicker.

Harry: Before I go, I want to mention that when I was putting away the tons of our Halloween decorations I found these antique red, white and blue table cloths that my Dad used to hang out on the porch on certain days of the year. I wonder why he did that?

Larry: Don't ask me but I'm sure it wasn't for Santa Claus day. Catch ya later.

Like many of you we have our family history in pictures on the hall wall. Corny but reminds us all of the huge moments of our family. One of the pictures is me getting into my jet for a mission and our wedding picture with me in my formal dress uniform.

Every year my grandkids call to wish me a happy Veterans Day and to thank me for my service. My granddaughter is applying to med school and is considering a career as a Navy MD.

Sometimes I notice my kids and their kids looking at those pictures as they go down the hall. Pat and I often wonder what will happen to those pictures when we pass.

Duty to country and the honor of service needs to be a family tradition.

Well Bless you for your service to our wonderful country. May it always be wonderful. Give your family especially your granddaughter my regards. I kid about my Army military service by telling everyone that I was a "USO Commando"....unfortunately the humor usually goes over their head....

Agreed! If you have the opportunity, watch the best antiwar movie (if not the best movie indeed) ever made. "Paths of glory - directed by Stanley Kubrick, main star Kirk Douglas" . If you do let me know what was/is your reaction....
