Thanks to everyone who replied and/or messaged me in response to my recent post about the serious mental and emotional side effects I have been experiencing on Lupron and Elligard. I wrote my MO yesterday restating my concerns - and today I received a message back from the MO, “Hello Mr XXXXXXX, we will switch to Degarelix when your next injection is due…”
YEAH! Result!
Its party time here this morning. My wife even cracked open a bottle of champagne and we danced around the house for a while.
I cannot express what a relief this is. I know that it is easy to dismiss what someone else is going through, but the last two months have been the most mentally challenging of my life. All I can say is that I’ve always been a relatively stable person (some snarky folks might say dull), but I was afraid if the side effects continued to intensify after my next Elligard injection that I might have a total mental breakdown. Many times over the last 8 weeks I have felt close to snapping.
The feedback, information, and compassion you shared with me was amazing. I used much of your input to help me craft my letter to my MO, and it worked within 24 hours.
I won’t be on the forum much today, because its party time all day today.

I am so glad you reached out and advocated for yourself. Mental health effects of these treatments are not discussed enough. Thank you for being brave. Party on!
Thanks Zengal. Fortunately I still have enought mental acuity (for up to 15 minutes a day 😉) to learn something and to advocate for myself. As fortunately, there are enough experienced and caring souls on this forum who were/are willing to share their knowledge, advice, and support!
When I was getting Eligard shots I felt uptight all the time.....tense, nervous , and easily annoyed. I'm not sure if it was from the drug itself or because I felt so lousy all the time from its side effects. Anyway, I hope you have better results with Degarelix. Now all you have to be concerned with are possible hot flashes, weight gain, diarrhea, nausea. hyperhidrosis including night sweats, rash. gynecomastia, testicular atrophy, erectile dysfunction. Increased transaminases, musculoskeletal pain and discomfort, dizziness, headache, insomnia, chills, fever, fatigue, and flu-like illness according to the literature. Sweet!!!! 😃 🦊
Already have all of those SE's, and was coping. But the mental health issues after this last injection made me a Danger Stranger to myself. Fingers crossed that that ship sails with the med change
