Seen my urologist today, he said my psa is creeping up and the Casodex may not doing its job. Psa went from 23 to 32 in 2 months. Wants to take me off the Casodex and start me on Orgovyx . I'm making an appointment to see my oncolgist. Would like to get some input on this. Anyone been taken off casodex due to psa rising? According to MRI's the cancer is still contain in the prostate capsule. Also have chronic prostatitis. Been fighting this for 6 years now. Not a fan of chemo or radiation. Thanks in advance for any advice

It sounds like Casodex is failing. I would move on to zytiga at this time. You have done well on casodex so zytiga plus prednisone should work. The side effects are the same.

If the cancer is still contained, why didn't they remove your prostate?

They wanted to remove my prostate but I declined. Stupid, maybe, but I wanted to take different routes of treatments. Found that even thougb the prostate can be removed the cancer can still return. A friend of mine had his removed, one year later the cancer returned and he is still fighting it so why bother.

My understanding is it takes time for prostate cancer cells to "learn" to scale the walls of the capsule. Removing the prostate removed this learning time.

If the cancer is already outside the prostate then you're right, maybe no point, other than comfort. But it sounds like you are saying the cancer cells are still contained. In that case, I really don't get your decision.

My brother was diagnosed with an aggressive PC that was still contained in the prostate and my advice to him was get it out as soon as humanly possible. The idea that removing a primary site will cause metastasis to expand is not a given, and not all disease is metastatic from the start.

Your cancer adapts to feed on Casodex eventually, so stopping it may lower your PSA.

"Not a fan of chemo or radiation." Me either. But I'm not a fan of metastatic bone pain either. Good luck with your de-wormer.

Hello woppaginny,

Ever hear Harry Belafonte sing this song? "Dago" tally me bananas....

My Doc just took me off Casodex and is setting me up for Nubeqa instead at $1,500.00 per 40 capsules. (I get an erection every time I say $1,500.00, so they may be worth it)......

Good Luck, Good Health and Good Humor.

Caxodex did not work at all for my Husband, put on it after six rounds of Doxy, had to go straight to Zytiga, which worked for just over two years, now PSA starting to creep up. My Husband Metastatic, GL 9 from the start.
