Hi all, I am really concerned about my husband who has Stage 4, Gleason 9 PC. He had his last chemotherapy round at the beginning of December and will start radiotherapy beginning of February but I am really concerned about his chest. He has had 4 courses of antibiotics and a course of steroids, prednisolone, for this but he is still coughing and wheezing. Has anyone experienced this after chemotherapy or should I be worried and request a chest X-ray to rule out anything sinister?

He may be immunocompromised with a low WBC count. Chemo and the cancer may affect the bone marrow. Request a CBC.
He may have Covid19 or other pulmonary infection. He should be tested.

We know that chemo knocks the hell out of the immune system. One thing I did before starting chemo, at the recommendation of my medical oncologist, was to be immunized against pneumonia. It made me feel much more secure.
However, as far as I know, the pneumonia vaccine works against bacterial, not viral, pneumonia. But I’m no expert. Ask your doctor. It might give you some peace of mind.
I agree that it makes most sense to get him checked out. Anyone coughing with wheezing should be investigated, not just cancer patients. It will help was your mind too! Hope he feels better soon. No fun watching our men struggle. Remember to take care of you too! I used to laugh when people told me that l, but it’s true. Even if you just go cry in the shower… take a little time everyday for yourself.
I'm in UKChemo number 4 I was stood in a&e with temp 39 because cancer nurses said I needed go in
A&e full of coughing wheezing sickness.
But was full of covid and that cold flu throat tickle thing that goes n comes.
Lots of my friends n family got the lurgy, but it lingered for ages.
I caught it.
I've had chemo 5 10 days ago but that lurgy bug is still going n coming
Same as with friends n family.....
You either lock down immuno compromised and hide at world from the bungalow curtains and live in the fears...
Or......
It's not just you, or me, it's lingering in my super fit healthy friends...
hi, we did a covid test etc but all ok. it is likely to be the dreaded lurgy but it’s always a worry it’s spread. We contacted the gp and he has referred him for CT as he’s had it since middle of December.
We both would agree that no way can you not live your life as normal, we enjoy it too much
