Is it worth taking magnesium supplements?

On Christmas Day our family gathered at our place and after dinner, as usual, the conversation turned to medical topics. My aunt told us that her neighbor told her that Magnesium may prime the immune system to fight cancer and infections. Dr. Hess and scientists in Switzerland have now discovered that a type of immune cell called a cytotoxic or "Killer" T cell can only eliminate cancerous or infected cells in the presence of magnesium. A clinical trial is planned. It was reportedly published in "Cells".

Do you take magnesium supplements, if so how much?

Have fun on New Year's Eve!

I take one capsule of magnesium (200 mg as Magnesium Citrate) every other day. I alternate it with zinc (15 mg as Zinc Picolinate).

No. Typical nonsense that people tell you. Unless your blood levels are low.

Magnesium Glycinate for cramps but if it has any other side effects that is good.

Thank you. Which form is better and more absorbable, Magnesium citrate or Magnesium glycinate (gluconate?)?

I take Magnesium Glycinate in capsule form as it is more quick release than tablet form, preferably with meals. I have not tried Magnesium Citrate.

I‘m running & exercising daily and therefore sweat a lot. I take 300mg / day and with this make sure, that I don’t get an cramps any more. Besides this I don’t experience any advantages / disadvantages.

Magnesium is a nutrient that acts as a catalyst in the utilization of carbs, proteins, calcium, phosphorus and possibly potassium. that affects many body functions. I don't have any information on cancer but

it helps with so many body situations from High blood pressure to heart fibrillation and kidney stones. I take one250 Mg tablet each day. You have to be careful as too much can affect bowel tolerance. 🦊🍏

Hi Lrv, thank you very much for the interesting information. As I wrote earlier, I heard about magnesium and cancer from my aunt. I was intrigued by this information and started searching online. I opened the University of Basel website and found some information about it. Researcher Christoph Hess is conducting this research and his email and phone number are listed on the website. However, it will be some time before concrete evidence is approved by the FDA.

Happy new year!
