12/17/22 Aloha, dockam, sorry I haven't posted more. "Fight on" is a very good motto because I have fought for the past 12 months to get my husband to understand prostate cancer. I must go to my son's soccer game tonight but will post to you. My husband read your latest posts and he sees the common points between our prostate cancer cases. Our doctors lie to us, not intentionally, but they hold the upper hand when it comes to medical knowledge, how can they not brush over things casually to omit what we need to conquerThe Beast?
12/17/22 Here is a similarity: My husband's PSA was 3.97 in 2013 but he did not look into it further until later. Cut to 2022: PSA 29, MRI-guided prostate biopsy gave Gleason scores of 7, 8 and 9. PSMA PET scan shows localized disease but oncologist predicts 95% likelihood of extracapsular extension. No lymph node or bone mets have shown on PSMA PET scan. No bone mets showed on bone scan but undoubtedly spread is happening on a microscopic basis. There has been no surgery or radiation yet; husband is clueless which treatment to pick. He does not know if he is a candidate for other treatments which are not available here in the islands but are available on the mainland.
Prostate cancer has hijacked my life; every waking moment has a task related to prostate cancer.
He needs to stay/get fit in anticipation of side effects from the meds: muscle loss, fat gain, anemia, bone density loss, depression. Cardio and weights. There have been multiple posts in re: Exercise and PCa mortality.
Watch the animal fats, plant fats are healthier, lean proteins, a rainbow of colors of fruits/veggies esp Cruciferous : cabbage, kale broccoli, napa.
My best to you both, feel free to msg me whenevers. I msgd you my cell #
Yes Sista Fight on - I'm still standing 8 years in babeeee
12/17/22 Hello, dockam. Hubby is a reclusive, private, rather anxious man but seeing your posts alerted him to the fact that his prostate cancer is progressing. Yes, hubby had his 1st Lupron & Prolia shots on 12/5/22. He took Casodex 50 mg for 21 days; then stopped Casodex and started Abiraterone Acetate 1000 mg/day. I kindly advised him that his prostate cancer is progressing at this very moment & that it will continue to progress, regardless of the treatments he employs. That is why he and I want to unite with you to learn about prostate cancer. By starting our personal contact, your presence can help us in a way no urologist or oncologist has. I'm heading out to a soccer game and my husband is heading for work (he works 3 nights a week) but I will text you now. You are fit; hubby and I are sedentary people.
The meds will slow down the progression and maybe he get into a durable remission even with PCa somewhere. So, no plans for Chemo? He must have had a DEXA done to check Bone Density and that's why they have him on Prolia to prevent bone loss. In a lot cases, extractions under an osteoporosis med can lead to ONJ - osteonecrotic jaw in which the socket doesn't heal. I'm osteopenic, and that's why I do so much hiking - weight bearing strengthens the long bones
You two as a team need to begin some kind of mutual exercise. Get a Map my run app on phone and even a daily cardio workout app. It take two to tango
My cell has sketchy service up here, so no worries if you text and I don't respond quickly.
Gonna go to the front and see if your msg comes thru
Mahalo my Bruddah, I feel that this forum can really help out others with our Collective knowledge and experiences. Maybe we can spare newly diagnosed PCa victims some of the bumps that we've encountered on this Camino (Path)
