Radium 223 -Is this tumour flare?

I started Radium 223 therapy on Tuesday and since then I suffered from general stiffness and pain from the back of the pelvis down to the lower leg.

I was wondering if anyone else had suffered these symptoms and if it was tumour flare?

Thanks

finlay.

I was on the LU177 that is a similar treatment. Had bone pain and stiffness for week after first treatment. Pain level increased after each additional dose. After dose 3 pain was very intense all over. So bad that I could barely walk or function. Dr checked blood and found inflamation markers were off the chart high. Then gave me heavy dose of steroid and luckily that calmed the inflamation right away. Stopped the LU for me.

IMHO the treatment was irritating the bone tumors and the nerve endings were reacting.

Thanks. It's early days I guess. I'm on low dose Dexamethasone so I guess an increase might help. I think it's a case of seeing how things go over Easter.

I was on RA 223 and did not have any side effects. Everyone responds differently.

magnus. You r exactly right!! Each of react differently to each different treatment. But we are all on the same path!!! Hang in there

Temporary pain flares happen because of inflammation. Corticosteroids (like a Medrol dose Pack and NSAIDS should help).

Just completed Xofigo cycle 5. A number of side effects including what you describe - lower back pain each time. NSAIDS help. Everything resolves by Day 6 or so. Fight On.

Thank you for these helpful words. I've been swimming this morning and also working in the garden in the sunshine. I can feel the tight muscles beginning to ease a bit. As you say, fight on!
