Abscopal cryo-immunotherapy trial

This is a couple of months old, so it may already have received a post. Basically it's a trial of a technique that treats a small part of a tumor with cryotherapy. As the cells in the tumor die they release antigens that the immune system, with the assistance of immunotherapy drugs, can recognize. the immune system then can mount a response to the cancer wherever it is in the body.

It's a trial for all types of solid tumors, including prostate. Here is a link to get more information:

I think this is a very similar, if not the same technology and procedure Dr. Gary Onik pioneered. According to what I've read on him, he too developed stage 4 prostate cancer and actually performed the procedure on himself via proxy, doing a spinal tap and through real time video guided a colleague through the operation..... It apparently cured him or set him into a very solid remission....

I've seen older posts on this forum about him, all positive. Ironically, I tried contacting him via email and phone, have not heard back yet..... Now I just pray that someone will take this ball and run with it and perhaps someday within all of our lifetimes it may be approved and become a SOC option....

Yes, it is a similar procedure. I was treated by Dr. Onik last year and have been working with him since to try to get a handle on my cancer with some promising recent developments. He is an amazing physician. The breadth of his experience and knowledge is really impressive. I can't say enough about the humanity and care in his practice. His son, also a physician and associate, Dr. Zuri Vega are right up there with him. Among other things, he is an interventional radiologist, the interpretation and information he drew from my scans along with subsequent genetic analysis and treatment recommendation has made all the difference. He practices the art of medicine. I'm sure that he will be in contact with you.

I posted the link because his treatment, not yet being approved, not covered by insurance is quite expensive(yet, the actual cost is reasonable compared with that of SOC procedures). I needed some help to afford it(much of the cost lies in the immunotherapy drugs). Perhaps some people will be helped by this trial of a similar- though not exactly the same- procedure with little or no cost to the patient.

In 2015 Dr. Onik came into the pre-OP cubical wife and I were hanging out in to say Good Morning and to tell me I was next in line for my Cryo. Wife got her obligatory hug from Dr. O. and he informs me that if I wanted to try something new, I would be the first patient with a GL10 diagnosis to have a new procedure he's been developing. Mine was the precursor to what he continued to advance into the protocol now employed.

p.s. - 1 month following the in-situ immuno injection he had me begin bi-weekly Testosterone injections

My husband was treated by Dr. Onik in 2020 and 2021 (two procedures). The first procedure on left hip decreased cancer by approximately 40% (according to PSMA scan) and PSA went down significantly. Approximately 6 Months later, PSA started to rise again and Dr. Onik performed another procedure on the right hip area but unfortunately it didn't seem to work for my husband. His PSA has risen significantly so he recently did two low dose Chemo treatments to qualify for the LU 177 (Pluvicto) treatment in Orlando with Dr. David Diamond. Chemo didn't seem to help at all and his PSA has continued to rise and cancer is showing additional metastases ; we are contemplating whether or not we are going to consider the Pluvicto treatment. Fortunately, my husband looks and feels pretty well (just not on paper).
