3 am in the morning, here in France. Another night of not being able to sleep!
Is Carboplatin always added to Cabazitaxel chemo? And if so what does it do?
Hubby has just had up front chemo of docetaxel followed immediately by Cabazitaxel, but without the Carboplatin. Not saying this was wrong at all, but would just like to know more on this subject. Thanks
Platinum chemos like carboplatin are generally used with either Docetaxel or Cabazitaxel for prostate cancers that have small-cell or neuroendrocrine features. These are discovered with a biopsy and a immunohistochemistry analysis.
Platinum chemos are also effective against tumors with homologous recombination repair defects such as BRCA 1, BRCA2 and ATM.
Outside of that, using it in combination with Taxanes is not typically done. I asked my doctor about it and he said he won't give it unless indicated. He said it's a tough chemo regimen and doesn't want to use it unless it's needed.
I am doing the combination of docetaxel and carbopolatin for amphicrine prostate cancer which I posted about a few weeks ago. A biopsy stained positive for the neuroendocrine markers however the cell histology is still that of adenocarcinoma. So hopefully this combination will put pressure on the neuroendocrine component.
And thanks, everyone, for the interesting references to read!
