it wasn't covered in full by the various health systems there?
Yes, it was. What I hope is, that now with competition and price drop they will start prescribing it earlier. For example in Slovenia it can be only prescribed once you are metastatic castrate resistant. So not for hormone sensitive disease. I believe it is similar in some other EU countries.
Thank you for the laugh. 😆 In European Union you can not buy even a 3 day course of antibiotics for UTI without prescription. Prescription or death 😝.
I don’t believe that extremes are good when it comes to social systems; I wish there was a middle way, perhaps Western Europe is the best in this respect. You have national health system, but you also have a private one. In Slovenia we don’t have a single private hospital and private heath system is limited to simple stuff (so for example no private oncologist in the country.) 🤦♀️
Good news on the generic availability. Now patients can drive the equation for early addition of abiraterone +p to ADT for mHSPC. And explore the reduced dosing of 250 mg/ daily with moderate fat breakfast. Can even be taken without an ADT drug as long as you verify castrate testosterone levels and adjust as needed. (Total T <20ng/dL or equivalent in other units). India generic manufacturers are also shipping.
Hello, many thanks for sharing this vital information. However, some of us in Africa don't know how to get genuine unadulterated generic Zytiga yet. I guess the price will be friendly. Please can you help me with the appropriate contact details to enable me get the EU generic brands? I really appreciate your help.
STADA debuts generic version of prostate-cancer drug Zytiga in Europe
Hi Thank you for this post i also would like to know how to purchase the EU generic's as
i am a little hesitant of the India suppliers
It is not possible to buy Zytiga (or any RX drug) without prescription in Europe. So I guess there are two options:
- find a pharmacy that would accept prescription from foreign doctor and be willing to ship abroad
- find an oncologist in Europe who will, based on prescription from your doctor issue a prescription with which you will be able to buy Zytiga. Perhaps your doctor can help you here, as he/she might have some contacts abroad?
In Slovenia we unfortunately do not have a single oncologist who works in private practice and in our country Zytiga can only be prescribed by oncologist. On top of that our pharmacies do not ship any RX drugs by post (not even within the country), so we need to go to the pharmacy and pick up the drugs.
As far as I remember, there were some legit on-line pharmacies in UK, who would send drugs based on on-line prescription. However they were only shipping in EU, last as I remember (not sure how this works now, with UK not being part of EU anymore).
Besides STADA, I know that also Sandoz (part of Novartis group) entered the market - drug is called Bixodalan in Slovenia, in most EU countries they go simply by the name Abirateron. As for Bixodalan in Slovenia 30tablet of 1000mg cost 1867 euro (1895 USD) and 60 tablets of 500mg 1823 eur (1851 USD). Just for comparison, 60 tablets of 500mg Zytiga (so originator) cost 2678 euro (2719 USD).
Ok, after some additional check, there are at lest the following companies selling generic Zytiga in Europe now: Stada, Sandoz, Krka, Accord, and Mylan.
I will try to think of ways to buy generic Zytiga out of Europe. If I come up with something, I will update.
