I have opted for the TP prostate biopsy over the TRUS biopsy. I could not find a Urologist in the Dallas/Fort Worth that does the TP biopsy. I did find a Dr. in Oklahoma city that does the TP biopsy. So I cancelled my TRUS biopsy in Fort Worth and Dr. Kelly Stratton with the Stephenson Cancer Center will do the biopsy on Aug. 24. Onward!

TRUS vs Transperineal Prostate biopsy
I had TP biopsy in April under local anesthesia. 24 cores. Pain rank...3 out of 10. Not much side effects.... blood in urine lasted about a week.TP is preferred to TRUS as there is lower risk of infections as the needle does not go through the rectum.
Best wishes for your treatments.

While the ABOVE statement is true, the most important advantage of a TP biopsy is the ability to reach the anterior area that the TRUS can not reach AND that often has higher grade PCa cells.

HOPING that YOUR TP Biopsy is being done utilizing MRI or Ultrasound methods.
GOOD LUCK 👍👍

Just one more point. With the black box warnings upgraded for the fluoroquinolones, Cipro and Levaquin being two common fluoros used, Rocephin or Cefdinir should be the drugs used to prevent sepsis or infections that could possibly result from the biopsy.

Definitely the right choice. IMO urologists should no longer offer nor perform such an inacurate and potentially infection causing TRUS biopsy procedure.
