Low sugar diet and fruits

I have been on low/no sugar since starting ADT a year ago. After reading a recent post that prunes helped nighttime urination, I tried it and, at least night, it seems to work. Reading the box this AM, I see prunes a pretty high in sugar, as are several other fruits. Now what ???

Sugars in fruits is not as harmful as Refined sugar. Why? For two reasons..(1) The fruit sugar is tied with lot of fiber and therefore, it is released slowly and this way it avoids Reactive Hypoglycemia and resulting in serious fluctuations in blood sugar and Insulin spikes. (2) Fruits contains substances which provide micronutrients and also have natural anti cancer properties ...indirectly helping slowing growth of cancer. If one has high blood sugar or clinical diabetes, amount of fruits need to be kept small...for those like me without high blood sugar, fruits are fine. The best test to monitor Diabetes is NOT fasting blood sugar test BUT it is Hemoglobin A 1 C.

There is no evidence that sugar is harmful for cancer.

Not directly but .... if it adds enough calories, along with other stuff, and leads to being overweight or obese then it can affect cancer. At least that's what Mayo says.

If you are concerned about the sugars in fruit you could possibly consider fermenting them. This will remove most of the sugar, depending on how long you ferment them for. As a bonus, fermentation creates a probiotic. Be careful if you drive though, you can get a decent amount of alcohol produced.

Sounds like a winner all around! Never done that but will look into it.

Yeah it’s defo a good thing to try. Some fruits are better than others though. Since they have the sugars removed they taste a bit odd to some people. Pomegranate seeds is my favorite, pineapple and bananas are nicer than most. It does change the consistency of the fruit as well. What I sometimes do is put the fermented fruit in some coconut kefir and add some monk fruit to sweeten.

It does have some alcohol in there but you can also add some of the juice. I used homemade coconut kefir as a base for the ferment.

I decided to eat only a moderate amount of berries and avocado along with above the soil vegetables, mainly lettuce, tomatoes, cucumbers, bell peppers etc.

I can't function without my prune juice. Don't need a lot. Just a few ounces with breakfast and a few ounces with dinner. I'm monitoring sugar intake with other foods just to keep from gaining weight, which can be a problem for a number of reasons.

Fruit is good for you. Whole fruit better than juice. If juice, fresh pressed better than commercial, most of us know to avoid that. If your diet is healthy and diverse, and you get plenty of exercise, fruit is wonderful. Fruits also have a wide range of sugar content, so choose wisely if that is a concern.

Admittedly dried prunes are not an ideal choice sugar-wise, but in moderation it should be fine.

Anything that helps with ‘nighttime urination’ I would not give up!

Melatonin or vitamin D3 can deal with nocturia. Taking 10kiu of D3 stopped it completely for me. I used to get up about 6 times a night. Now I sleep all the way through.

Melatonin gave me grogginess and brain fog the next day, but reduced it to a couple of times a night.

They also work well for defection but can cause gas too.

It was always my impression that Prostate Cancer was more sensitive to fat than sugar ? Either way sugar in fruit, when eaten in its whole food form, is ok. Fruit has fiber that helps slow the absorption of sugar. Fruit has a lot of other things nutritious things, like antioxidants. Think about some of the natural ways of dealing with cancer. Gerson has folks eating apples. I would not worry about fruit.(Well possibly bananas but they might be ok too). Here is a nutrition facts video link

I cut out about 80% of my processed sugar intake and I feel better. Lost 5 pounds also. So guess I will stick with it. Cheers 🍻 Bud Zero.
