Blood sugar after EBRT

Has anyone had their blood sugar start spiking after finishing EBRT??

Was fully under control before and during. Now, I dont know what's happening.

Yes, Im DM2, and medicating along with minimal carbs, and no sugar.

I did, not too far above normal. I thought it had more to do with ADT though

No change in my blood sugar, and I've never seen it come up. Probably it is due to other causes (ADT or stress, for example).

Are you diabetic?

Not ADT.

Ive been constant the last 2 years, added Insulin N last year to counteract Prednisone.

This is not gradual, it started last week.

Just read the body is under stress from EBRT, could be that.

Last day of RT, doctor said "inflammation" from radiation damaged tissues will diminish within 6 weeks.

You say that you have been on prednisone. Does that mean you have also been taking Abiraterone? Maybe it is because of those drugs and not EBRT. I was on ADT, Abi, Pred for about 6 months when I had 39 EBRT sessions. Not long after, my blood sugar began to rapidly go up. That is a known SE of Abi, and we concluded that was the cause in my case.

How would blood sugar rapidly go up not long after EBRT be the SE of Abi??

My BSG has been under control with Abi/Pred UNTIL AFTER EBRT.

Liver failure is a known SE of Abi, I dont have that!!!

Sorry, what I was trying to say was that perhaps the EBRT timing had nothing to do with the increase. Correlation is not causation. It may have just been at that particular time that the blood sugar started spiking as a result of the Abi.

Its a hell of a coincidence!!!😎

Asking here as any SE I mention to my MO is not due to the ADT!!!

And RO won't acknowledge SEs. My monthly blood tests showed Lymphopenia 5 weeks into my EBRT, the Radiology NP tells me that EBRT is not the cause!!! But Lympocytes were perfect on day 1 of EBRT. They're blaming ADT!!

The good part?? My PSA is still <0.1 Now thats ADT!!

Yes, my lymphocytes have tanked also. Good news on that PSA score!

My glucose did rise. My Endocrinologist said the rise was due to the Prednisone I began taking along with the Zytiga I had started after the EBRT. I had to double my daily insulin to compensate.

in reply toShipModeler

Unlike you. I have already been on Zytiga and Prednisone for 6 months BEFORE EBRT

The spike started AFTER EBRT.

I’m not diabetic, am on ADT plus darolutamide and had 28 rounds of EBRT. No elevation in glucose and my A1c has been right around 5.2% for the last year. (Had radiation in Dec 2022 / January 2023)

Mine went crazy with ADT. I had zytiga for 8 months before radiation then a total of 18 months of ADT. A few months after radiation my first ever A1c was 10.5. Not sure which caused it but I personally think it was the low testosterone level. Actually my dr told me it probably was caused by it and he also thought my testosterone level was low before I was diagnosed. I did not get a test before they hit me with my first lupron shot. As my T returns it is easier to control. Finally bouncing between 150 and 300 after below 100 for 2 1/2 years. Last lupron shot ended feb 2020
