I have seen a number of posts where people have referenced avoiding eggs due to their Choline content. Is this a real concern for APC patients?
A recent article brought these concerns to mind:
Part of the vitamin B family, choline helps the body use fats more efficiently by breaking them into smaller pieces that can be burned more easily for energy.
Eggs are a top pick for this nutrient, but another one is mangoes, says Martha Lawder, RDN, president of the California Academy of Nutrition & Dietetics. Although people focusing on weight loss tend to shy away from mangoes due to their high natural sugar content — which means they’re a high-carb fruit — they’re a great source of choline, she says.
“Not only do mangoes taste absolutely delicious, but they improve metabolism,” says Lawder. “Also, choline is very important to central nervous system function, so that’s another top benefit.
Choline is ubiquitous in our bodies, required for all cell surfaces and neurotransmission. Deficiency, which is rare, can result in impaired brain function, heart health, and liver function. There's no evidence that starving oneself of this essential molecule in any way slows down cancer. The only "evidence" is guilt by association. Variety in protein sources is probably a good idea.
Just simple thoughts as dieting always seems to come up. Thinking out loud you might say...
What is it, 60%+ of Cancer patients take supplements... I believe mainly because we feel the need to think we are having some effect upon the disease. This is misguided!
But avoiding eggs, the Yolk specifically, that contains the bad stuff like cholesterol. Is ok in a general sense of a well rounded diet, a good idea if you have elevated bad cholesterol, etc., or just general health. Eat eggs, eat as many egg whites as you want. An egg is very nutritious and as with anything, in a well rounded diet. Over doing things to any extreme I don't believe benefits anyone. I take drugs recommend by my GP for certain health issues and adjusted my diet to those issues as well. But I still eat what I like to eat, ie, Aged Ribeye, Barbeque, etc. But there are limits, lol.
I don't believe though that changing diet in our last ¼ of our lives will make substantial changes for the effects of the other ¾... Lol. The damage, whatever damage there might be, has already occured! (All in regard to a patient being diagnosed with Cancer of course). For general health there may be benefit! It's always a conundrum because I know people who are in their 80's and have smoked and drank their entire adult lives, daily! And never been to the hospital... Lol, go figure!
