Are there any pros or cons to probiotics while on Lupron, Abiraterone, and prednisone? Jim has never in his life gotten staph infections, and he is now fighting his second one on his skin within 4 months. Thinking he doesn't have enough friendly bacteria in his system.

Thank you

Once the skin is colonized by MRSA, it is usually permanent. Sometimes he will have breakouts. Now that you know what to watch for, he can clean the area with chlorhexidine and use Mupirocin at the first sign. I keep some Bactrim around to use before I can get a new Rx from my doctor. I find that early treatment can keep it under control.

Wow...I had no idea. Thank you.We still have a tube of Mupirocin and I put that on today. We actually have some Bactrim also which we had used on his initial infection in January before we knew what it was. And I'll purchase some chlorhexidine

Truly appreciate the information TA. He was a bit panicked thinking his immune system is compromised from treatment.

Thank you

Could you expand on your answer above? At the age of 80 I suddenly find myself plagued with skin rashes -- some are just nettlesome, others are more problematic. I've gone to a dermatologist, but she obviously has not yet hit on an accurate diagnosis, since the various meds she has prescribed are not very helpful.

There are many causes of rashes - including non-infectious causes like liver disease, lupus and apalutamide. I was just talking about MRSA.

Back to the original question, I doubt probiotics can hurt and maybe they can help. I took probiotics for about 6 months after surgery/radiation and I believe it helped as I'm doing fine so far. Who knows if anything would be different if I didn't take them? The only skin problem I had is with the soles of my feet when my feet swelled and the skin cracked allowing infections to get in. All gone now and use moisturizer on my feet to prevent a recurrence. So far so good. Best wishes.

Thank you, will try that. Amazing!! !!

Take it, it can't hurt you...take it in the morning on an empty stomach....you have nothing to loose by taking a probiotic. J-o-h-n has the idea, greek yogurt is awesome with organic fruit and a little honey.
