Get the generic abiraterone instead of the brand name Zytiga. $220/mo.

goodrx.com/abiraterone

I went to Walgreens (listed on goodrx pharmacies) and they refused to give me the goodrx price...mumbled something about their system showing that our insurer receives government funding??? Our insurer didn't cover the drug....a legit one , and listed on goodrx.

I am not sure but I don't think you can use insurance and Good rx an the same time. Try using Goodrx without your insurance.

No, insurer didn't cover this at all, but Walgreen's asked for our insurer name anyway..and that was the reply I was given?

Sometimes if you ask for the cash price and don’t give them your insurance information you may get a price substantially lower than the insurance copay. Craziness. I have one pharmacy to check for this that I have never used with insurance, otherwise they will only give you the insurance pricing.

That’s what I paid last month. Applying for a grant which takes care of what the insurance doesn’t pay for 12 months.

Just to blow your mind, my insurance is $15 for the generic

Try looking up “ the assistance fund”. They help insured patients cover the high copays of medicines. This fund has been helping me with the high copay for Xtandi. Funds open and close frequently as money becomes available or is depleated. .

Additional Resources to investigate

American Cancer Fund

CancerCare

Family Reach

Good Days Foundation

Medicine Assistance Tool (MAT)

National Cancer Institute

National Coalition for Cancer Survivorship

Needy Meds

Good luck finding some help and most important good luck that the drugs will work for along time

Mine costs $65 copay with Blue Cross Blue Shield; you could ask your doctor about taking one pill with a meal, instead of 4 on empty stomach.

Same here marc_andersun I’ve been on ABIRATERONE 250mg for 2yrs 5 months with my low fat breakfast. Its been working fine . PSA is not at 0.0 yet but constantly dropping @ 0.128 last Dec. Huge plus side for me is (1) ABIRATERONE 250mg with 5mg Pred daily is easier on my heart cardiac rhythm issues.

Got to have an in sync NSR heart with correct

pacing and strength or can’t fight PCa!!!

Think of it this way--they are just trying to get you psychologically prepared for Xtandi (enzaludamide). The list price for that one is $10,499.50 PER MONTH [don't forget the 50 cents] and there isn't yet a generic version....

Full pop on Zytiga is $96 per pill and you take 4 pills every day.....

Amazing isn't it. Drug prices seem to be much cheaper in other countries. My question is why. BUT stocks are up..

There is another discussion of generics vs. Zytiga at this address: healthunlocked.com/advanced...

Maybe new insurance? When I had BC/BS Keystone East I paid $15 per 120 . When out of work Jansen picked up the entire cost. It might all depend on your financial status. I would look into generics, which weren't an option even a year ago, but now they are.

I have used Co-Pay cards for other medications. I looked up Zytiga and found the following

Janssen CarePath

zytiga.com/starting-zytiga/...

I have also found that grocery store pharmacies offer much better prices that the major drug store chains through GoodRX. I am in Houston, TX - HEB Pharmacy and Kroger Pharmacy have the best prices.

More about GoodRx

In Houston, TX

Generic Zytiga at HEB / Kroger Pharmacies

250 mg - Qty 120 $222

500 mg - Qty 120 $8,800

250 mg - Qty 240 $436 (twice the pill intake to get the dose of 500 mg, way cheaper.)

Check the price each time before refills. After the first months (to see side effects), switch to a 90 day supply).

You the doctor's patient portal to have the transfer prescriptions and let the doctor and staff know what you are doing and why - they want you to take the medicine and saving $500 per prescription is worth it.

Try using the hospital out patient pharmacy. I have Blue Medicare and they didn’t charge me a copay.

Find online Johnson & Johnson. They have the sponsored program for people with low income. Zatyga or Xtandi will be free for you. Your oncologist should open your medical file for them. They collect info on effectiveness their drugs until now.
