Carefully interpret this study...What I understand that there are some Good Bacteria in yogurt that slow the growth of prostate cancer by keeping the microbiome normal. On the other hand, excessive growth of bad gut bacteria can cause promotion of cancer growth.

It is known that there is competition in Gut to have growth between bad and good bacteria. In this fight, if good bacteria supplied by Good, homemade Yogurt dominate, results will be favorable not just in case of prostate cancer but also in other intestinal diseases .

Making Yogurt with best quality Lactobacilli , and bifidobacteria can help.

I make my yogurt using capsules of probiotics...My probiotic for making yogurt is SR daily probiotics 60 billion CFU (by SR sports research) fat free Yogurt is my favorite daily food and I do not plan to stop eating probiotic made yogurt.

This has nothing to do with yoghurt per se. What the report is stating is that a particular type of beneficial bacterium could be delivered in a yoghurt type drink. Yoghurt is the medium.

I am confused & concerned because my hubby has been taking a probiotic supplement every day. Could this be contributing to recurrence?

If the yogurt drink has beneficial bacteria such as some Lactobacilli and bifidobacteria..then yogurt drink is fine. If the yogurt has a lot of fat..esp saturated fat..than that can cause problem.Prostate cancer cell grow faster if there is lot of saturated fat available ..particularly fat from animal sources.

Hey monte1111!

Try slicing some ripe strawberries and layering through strawberry yogurt. One of my favorites before becoming a vegan. Blackberries and vanilla yogurt would be #2.

Agreed that some yogurts are as you bluntly described.

Looks like this provides another reason to have a good high fibre content in the diet to make sure that the gut microbiome remains diverse.

My husband never cared for yogurt or cereal for most of his life. However, now he uses probiotic yogurt as a medium for a very high fiber cereal to help him fight constipation caused by so many medications and/or Parkinsons and/or Graves Disease.

He also drinks at least a half gallon jug of water daily which he has sitting next to his lounger.

He's a happy camper when he can go every morning and I am happy that he's happy and I don't have to give him an enema or worse.

The research shows that the bacterium Prevotella stercorea is associated with favourable clinical outcomes and, presumably, prevention of castration resistance. A quick search doesn't yield any probiotic supplemen containing this.

Hey sarkozy!!

Your post didn't show up in my email until 1:29 AM this morning so my response to this conversation will be late.

GREEN VIBRANCE has a good dose of the little organisms --a dozen different "varieties"!

GREEN VIBRANCE is a good addition to any blended drink. Depending on the drink it is added to you won't know GREEN VIBRANCE is in the drink.

The majority of the ingredients in GREEN VIBRANCE are organic. It contains not only about every fruit and vegetable but also grasses and spirulina.

GREEN VIBRANCE may be a more complete and balanced blend of the little organisms while supplying high quality nutrients as well.

For vegans it is a good source of probiotics. One should be careful however when using probiotics. A friend who is a nurse called me with the complaint that she was having some intestinal discomfort. She had started taking a probiotic supplement and was a little "loose". Call number 2--She changed to another brand. Still the same problem. I asked how much and how often--oohh! If the directions on the bottle say this much---well-- maybe more is better? She stopped taking it as I told her to. I explained that these bacteria establish colonies. The colonies do not need to be replenished every day and certainly not twice a day!

Her doctor had give her a salve for a certain "area" that had been a little overworked! The doctor didn't understand supps and people's mistakes--the common mistakes made by people when taking supps. Doctors do not make money from supps! Do they?

This is a hypothesis derived solely from studies in mice so far, perhaps can “someday” be applicable to men w/PCa via some type of yoghurt drink. So far, speculative:

It's a long term "hope" as discovery is in early stages. This is unproven but it's pointing to an interesting direction. When you get to the snippet here:

"Scientists also analyzed microbial genetic material from the stool of men with prostate cancer and identified a specific bacterium – Ruminococcus – that may play a major role in the development of resistance. In contrast, the bacterium Prevotella stercorea was associated with favorable clinical outcomes," you may be tempted to consume Prevotella stercorea as a solution but note this before heading down that path:

Caution is warranted but this could be good news - again, longer term.
