My father(age 69) diagnose with Prostate Cancer on 16th Mar 2019, his PSA was 3045 ng/ml(ref range 0.00 - 2.80) Platelet count 56.00 (Ref range 150-400) Hemoglobin 8.70(Ref Range 13 - 80). Past history, he had Open Heart Surgery in 2012(MetXL 25 & Korandil 5, 2 times a day ) and thyroide problem (taking Thyronorm 75 tablet every morning).

He had 2 blood transfusion at that time but it didn't help to increase any of it. Dr in Hinduja Hospital Mumbai tried everything to but it didnt help either.

they gave him discharge after few days at that time his Platelet count 60.00 (Ref range 150-400) Hemoglobin 7.00(Ref Range 13 - 80).

We started taking papaya(Carica) leaf juice started withg very small quantity as papaya leaf juice is difficult to digest. intially my father was not feeling easy(motion) due to juice so we took ayurvedic medicice Bel Murabba and it helped him with motion. We increase juice quantity after confirming motion are in control and there was no other side effect. We were surprized to see after few days his condition was better and platelet count where increased. whenever juice was not possible we where taking Caripill Tablets initially we where taking half tablet and then increased it to 1 tablet.

May2019, Platelet 120, Hemoglobin 7.2 and PSA 45

Medication: Biclutide 50mg 1-0-1, Metxl 25 1-0-1, urimax 0.4mg 0-0-1, Korandil 5 1-0-1, Thyronorm 75 1-0-0, Celin 500mg 1-0-0, Ultracet 1-1-1.

We stop taking caripill once his Platelet count crossed 120.

He was feeling better that time and guess that helped him for responding to medicine.

He did PET/CT in Mar 2019 and Ga 68 PSMA PET/CT last week.

Welcome. The Bicalutamide seems to have lowered his PSA considerably. That is good. In the USA, many men take Bicalutamide to start, and then switch over to one of the other testosterone lowering drugs for longer term initial treatment of advanced prostate cancer. Ask his oncologist. In recent years some men have added early chemotherapy with Docetaxel (Taxotere) with the intent of getting better overall survival at the other end of subsequent treatments. Again, ask his oncologist.

Several men here started with PSAs in the thousands, and responded well to initial systemic treatments. (I had a PSA of 5,006 a little over 6 years ago at age 65. My initial treatment took the PSA down to 1.0. Later, it went back up to 95.0, then back down again to 1.2 after some other treatment. My current PSA is around 7.6.)

Hopefully, your Father will be with us for a long time, too. If he gets "hot flushes" or "hot flashes", it is very typical. Many of the drugs that lower testosterone will be trying to turn his body into an 11 year old boy again. Keeping him moving and doing some exercise will help, too. A good diet to avoid gaining too much weight will also help.

He is lucky to have your love and understanding. Keep us posted on his progress.

Thank You for your suggestion patient guide is really useful.

I am planning to plot graph of PSA, Platelet , hemoglobin and medication he is taking.

Bicalutamide seems ineffective after 3 months so doctor suggested for Enzulatamide.

Enzulatamide is quite expensive medicine, so we asked doctor to suggest any other medicine we could afford. He suggested us Abiraterone, he is on Abiraterone with predistine something.

In Jan 2020, he undergo surgery for Orchiectomy.

Doctor did not opt for chemotherapy due to his age ,hemoglobin and Platelet level.

We were also scared about it.

My observation was

for motion Bel Murabba helped and for Platelet Carica leaf juice helped

In this situation if there is 0.01% of hope, i will go for it.

If my experience helped someone it is well and good.

But i feel, we should share our experience.

Thank You

I pray to god, no one should have any type of cancer. Its really painful.

Please clarify what was his PSA before papaya leaf extract and after using it. What other change was made to his meds around that time.

In India, it is well known to avarage people that papaya leaf extract boosts platlet count.

When there are cases of Dengue fever, Chcungunya fever (viral illnesses) people's platlet counts go down which recover after use of papaya leaf extract within a week.

BTW, Having high PSA (3000+) is not big issue if he is responding well to androgen blockade.

I am just sharing our experience.

About papaya leaf extract, there was not even slide difference after doctor started treatment and he was not feeling as well.

so we decided we will search and go for ayurvedic remedy to treatment of hemoglobin and Platelet level. if these 2 are maintained our body has chance to fight.

Thank You for sharing your findings.

Discuss the possibility of doing a PET/CT or a CT and bone scan to have a baseline study and determine where the metastases are located. Talk with the doctor about starting him in abiraterone, enzalutamide or apalutamide along with lupron or similar. These treatments may have a better outcome than bicalutamide at 50 mg a day.

He is on abiraterone from past few months

Since abiraterone failed and he can not get chemo because the low platelets, you could discuss getting a Ga 68 PSMA PET/CT and if there are metastases expressing PSMA, you could find out if they could treat him with Lu 177 PSMA. The Ga 68 PSMA PET/CT and Lu 177 PSMA are available in India.

Thank You for your suggestion.

We did PET/CT in Mar 2019 and Ga 68 PSMA PET/CT last week, now waiting for Biopsy retest result from Tata Memorial.

once Ga 68 PSMA PET/CT and biopsy report handy we will consult with Tata Memorial doctors

tango65 profile image
tango65 in reply toVasanta

The biopsy could help if the cancer has mutations which could be treated with olaparib or keytruda or similar drugs. The Ga 68 PSMA PET/CT could give info to determine if he can be treated with Lu 177.

Keep us informed.

Best of luck!!

You are in Mumbai,I guess. In Mumbai, there are many hospitals such as Tata Memeorial, Ambani hospital, Bombay hospital, Jaslok Hospital...all of these hosptals have Ga68PSMA/F18 PSMA scans available. Also, many of these places may be doing Lu177 treatment too. Price of these scans may be in the range of Rs .15000 to 20000. ($200-$250)

Thank you for sharing this! My husband has been in bone marrow failure since December after having his 4th Xofigi treatment (something that happens much more frequently than they say!! - esp with those who have a lot of bone mets!!) His hemoglobin improved in his blood test last week, but his WBC went below normal for the first time, and his platelets are dangerously low. He's been on Darolutamide for almost 2 months now, so that may explain the low WBC (being a side effect of Darolutamide), and I'm hoping the platelets may be low due to taking circumin supplements, which he just stopped.

I was just reading how papaya is at the tiop of the list to help increase platelets, so I did a search here and was thrilled to see your post! I'm wondering what may be the best way to give papaya.....

Many thanks to all the posters here for all the valuable and life saving information!!
