Pain in the bones and joints.

My father has Stage 4, Gleason 9 prostate cancer which has spread to bones.

He underwent orichtectomy and 9 rounds of chemotherapy.Last chemo infusion was on 23rd July 2021.

While undergoing chemotherapy,he was able to walk fairly long distances but now he has started having pain in his bones.

Please suggest what can be done to strengthen his bones and reduce the pain.

He should have a DEXA scan to see if his bone mineral density is low. Sometimes prednisone, which he takes with his chemo, causes bone loss. If so, he can take a bisphosphonate to strengthen bones.

Is the pain in the bones or in the joints.? It is unusually that osteopenia (T value of dexa up to -2.5) or osteoporosis (T values greater than -2.5) alone cause pain..

If the dexa show osteoporosis he could be treated with denosumab or zoledronic acid infusions.

If there are bone metastases they could be causing the pain and you could discuss if treatment with denosumab or zoledronic acid is indicated in his case and if treatment to the mets with radiation may be an option to consider.
